Is there really any difference?

Saturday night through Sunday morning is currently their night for anime - it seems to me that all they are doing is adding the "Toonami" name and ads to it.

you're pretty much right, Toonami is just a strategy to a higher viewership and reel in their past fans.  However, if it's successful, it could potentially be a large step for the R1 anime industry.  We might see more licenses happen for future series, especially if Toonami is going to air dub premieres.

At least for me, it's more of a longing for an anime community for American cable that can potentially be Toonami, along with the nostalgia factor with TOM.

What I'm most looking forward to is the new change in audience and their timeslot; there's no way they are catering for a younger audience + new fans with a once a week 12:00 - 5:00 AM slot.  I want to see mature dubbed series.  Monster, Baccano, Madoka..

We already get like 70% of a season's shows licensed within 2 weeks of the season starting nowadays.  The only thing this might do if successful is get Funimation to not take 2 years to release a license.

I wouldn't be too sure of that.

For several years Funimation has been in the process of making the Funimation Channel more available. More than likely they'll put on there first, in hopes that providers (satellite and cable) will add the channel to their line-up.

Hopefully the channel will collapse (not to be mean), then they make shows more readily accessible. If it doesn't fade away, the delay in release on non-Funimation channels may still take a while.

Personally I would like to have the channel, but it's not carried by ANYONE in my area.

It already collapsed to the point that it's now basically a pay-only channel like HBO.

No.  The Toonami I watched was in the afternoons and had Sailor Moon, DBZ, Tenchi Universe, and some other random show.  This... this is adult swim cosplaying!

I'm kinda afraid of the same thing - but, we'll just wait and see when it starts later this month.

That would be so much better!  They could throw in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, too, then it would be perfect.

I might wake up early and go running. I also might wake up and win the lottery. The odds are about the same.

Odds are none of those shows are actually good anymore.

I was just counteracting negativity by making fun of generic nostalgia opinions.

Dragon Ball Kai was good.  In Japanese, at least.  Funimation replaced some of the voices for the English version, and while some are good others are just absolutely atrocious.  Especially Gohan.  He sounds like a girl, even when he's a teenager.  And not a girl in the "wow, he has a female voice actress trying to sound like a young boy", but more like "His voice actress knows he's supposed to be male, right?"

Not bad, Deadman Wonderland I hear is a rather good series, and since I haven't seen it yet, it could follow it on a weekly basis
