There are various flashbacks and different characters are introduced to each other, but a general knowledge of each of the superheroes is probably needed to get them.

Also, a point of curiosity for European watchers, because I've been wondering this for a while about big Hollywood movies that go out globally. If you were watching Avengers in a country that is not predominantly English-speaking, was it dubbed or subbed? Are big Hollywood movies like Titanic or Harry Potter generally dubbed or subbed? When I was in Italy I saw Harry Potter 7.2 dubbed, but we've also been to see English-language movies in Italy that were subbed. So I'm curious about which is more common and what you saw it in.
Well, the Japanese trailer for the avengers was subbed. :x

Also, few of my favorite scenes:
Spoiler:
The Hulk/Banner definetly. He was so hilarious in almost every scene he was in. One of my favorites being him and Thor being badass, and then in the end, he punches Thor. XD And when Captain America told him, "Hulk, smash" and he smiled so creepily. XD

Also, every scene with Loki. And damn. In that last scene, he was dead sexy.
Coulson. His death was so sad. ;.;

Black Widow. Amg.

So, I guess you could say every scene. XD

Well, every scene WAS awesome XD Also, that was an amazing way to fit Hulk's catchphrase in XDXDXD

Though I thought Loki was better-looking in Thor. He was a slick-ass mofo in Stuttgart, to be sure, but I find the Snape hair and batshit insane grins to be detracting from his looks.
Spoiler:
Also, Hulk exfoliating his face with Tony's floor can't help, awesome thought it was XDXDXD

I think that's the point actually, manga. In the interviews with Tom Hiddleston, he said that it was, in a way, a story of Loki finding his own, ah, 'destiny' I would say? So of course he would look a lot meaner, and not as fragile looking as in Thor. XD

Also, thanks to tumblr, I was reminded of possibly my favorite scene:
Spoiler:
'Kay, so, Thor and Loki are on a mountain, and Thor was like, 'Listen, Brother' and then Captain America flies in and takes him away, and Loki is like 'I'm listening...' XD
EDIT: Oh, and um... while I was on the loki tag on tumblr I found this. XD

Okay, if Tom Hiddleston said that, I am ever more convinced that Loki has seen the future and the nature of predestiny and that's what's driven him insane. He's seen stuff like his eternal binding and the whole poison dripping thing, and how he and Heimdall are gonna kill each other and stuff.

And yes, I adored that scene XD
Spoiler:
First it was just heartwrenching how hard Thor was trying to reach out to Loki and Loki was always pushing him away. It was truly heartbreaking to see that Loki truly believes that he has no home or family, even when Thor is standing right there trying to convince him that he does if he just stops with the crazy and goes back to Asgard.

Then I nearly broke my neck on the mood whiplash when Iron Man turned up with his high-velocity tackle XDXD

And everything just got awesome from there.

The funny thing is, he knows more about Loki that a lot of fangirls do. He might possibly be his #1 fan, which is hilarious. XD
Spoiler:
And it was. ;w; And then there's that other scene on the Stark tower when he tries to give Loki one more chance, and you can feel that Thor really thinks he's getting through to him, but then he stabs him. ;.;

That's always awesome. Samuel L Jackson's a big comic fanboy too XD

All the scenes with Thor and Loki are beautifully scripted and just amazing and generally tragic. I love the complexity of their relationship as brothers. The problem is, I'm aware that people ship it and every time I come across stuff on that topic it seriously creeps me out. I know they're not actually blood related, but it makes me feel like whenever I come across people who ship Ed and Al in FMA. THEIR BROTHERLY RELATIONSHIP IS SO LOVELY AND AWESOME AND BROTHERS DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO MAKE IT THAT THEY WANT TO SHAG EACH OTHER D:

I know how you feel. Because I follow the Loki tag... I see some interesting things from time to time. >.> One art was really explicit and it was disgusting. Thank goodness one of my parents didn't see.

The prime ships I now have for this universe are Hawkeye/Black Widow, Stark/Banner and Stark/Everyone. Because, y'know, it's Tony XD

Stark/Loki. *.*

Meh. I don't really like Hawkeye all that much. :/ He's just... I dunno.
Spoiler:
I might've laughed in his first scene. He was so much like an adult 'emo kid', IMO.

I did like the scenes though when he shot an arrow without even looking at it. That was freakin' amazing.

And then that one scene when Loki just caught the arrow with one hand, unfazed. XD

from what I understand, the movie is pratically one big payoff for every Marvel movie since Iron Man...and that's the only Marvel movie I've seen after Spiderman 3.

I'll probably wait for the deletedscene-riffic dvd release so I have a chance in the Summer to watch the other Marvel movies. Because anyone who has the balls to build up one movie THIS much earns my respect. (also this officially puts the Avengers payoff as quicker than the payoff for the Bourbon arc :p)

I. Love. This. Movie.

So, so awesome!
Spoiler:
As mentioned by various people, highlights for me were Hulk smashing Loki around Tony's floor, Captain America giving orders: "Hulk.... smash.", and the entire movie in general.  I also like how Loki just watched Thor vs. Iron Man early on. XD

Understated, but I do love this scene early on.
Spoiler:
Banner and Black Widow are talking, she's insisting that they're not after him for the Hulk, and Banner suddenly slams the table and roars "STOP LYING TO ME!" Cue heart attack for everyone in the theatre, including Black Widow, who manages to panic-grab the gun and summon a thousand soldiers in about half a second.

Banner just grins and goes "sorry... that was mean." Banner, you epic troll XDXDXDXDXD

I quite liked Hawkeye in this. When he wasn't possessed, anyway. We got so little of him in Thor but his two lines that he did have were great, and in this he is visibly badass enough to hang with the superheroes XD I loved that scene too; Hawkeye's about to hit Loki dead in the eye, Loki catches it without looking... and then it explodes anyway XDXDXD
