Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe

OK, so! I've gotten some rest now.

The audience at my screening was way into this movie. There was a massive cheer during...
Spoiler:
The "assembled" shot when everyone was together near the end of the final battle.
Other notes, in the form of hype ramblings:
Spoiler:
Mad props to Joss Whedon for everything he's done for this movie. Absolutely no one could have done it better than this. The movie was genuinely funny all over the place with perfectly-placed humor. What I liked most, though, was that everyone had enough of the spotlight. It didn't feel like any character, even Black Widow, was underused or overused, to me. Whedon did a fantastic job of balancing all of these personalities but, best of all, he absolutely nailed all of the inter-personnel conversations. All of the personalities felt fleshed out and true to form. I was very pleasantly surprised that Robert Downey Jr. didn't steal the show with his usual show-stealing powers (I saw one critic falsely claim it felt like "Robert Downey Jr. and the Avengers", but he couldn't have been more wrong). Everyone fit in exactly as they needed to and all of the actors did an excellent job. It all really did feel like a team movie with everyone having their part.

There's no question that Mark Ruffalo is the best Hulk yet. Not only was he great as Banner, but the CG Hulk itself looked and felt perfect. Hawkeye was totally boss in this movie, too, especially during the final battle. The mechanical bow system in itself is an excellent touch. I was surprised that I didn't mind Black Widow in this, given that I wasn't sure how she would work out but she did. Tom Hiddleston made another great turn as Loki (he was the best part of Thor as far as I'm concerned). Sam Jackson makes me actually care about the character of Nick Fury as a guy and not just a figurehead. Him bringing his Sam Jackson-ness to it makes it go from what would otherwise be a bit character and turns him into a legitimate one.

Oh, and the final battle. Nothing really has to be said other than it was really just spectacular. The continuous shot they put together to show what everyone was doing at that time is a technical marvel (pun intended).

I don't know if that bonus scene has been in any of the releases made outside of North America, but if it hasn't and you want to know what it is:
Spoiler:
At the very-very end, there is a non-dialogue scene post-battle in which everyone is having food at the restaurant Stark mentioned at the end. They all just sit around eating, still in full costume. Very funny scene, loved it.

Spoiler:
I adored all of the intercharacter conversations, especially Stark and Banner, Hawkeye and Black Widow, Cap and Banner, Thor and Coulson, Cap and Stark... just all of them were perfectly written and the characters played so well with each other. The way that their personalities clashed, and then found out how to fit with each other, really was just perfect.

Also, yay! Someone else who likes Ruffalo-Hulk. Some of my friends were still sore that it wasn't Edward Norton, but I loved him.

And that scene was not in the UK release, at least not the one I saw O_O And I stayed the whole credits. The only stinger I saw was the one with Thanos (sp?).

Spoiler:
That little bonus scene was one shot very recently, right after one of the premieres. My guess is Whedon or Kevin Feige had the idea for it after everyone had separated but couldn't find a way to get everyone together apart from at the premieres. The Thanos one, in the U.S. version at least, doesn't appear after the credits themselves--for us, that one comes after the stylized credits showing everyone's gear and such, and then the typical scrolling text immediately follows, with the bonus scene inserted at the very-very end.

Spoiler:
Actually, I think I saw a screenshot of that. I thought it was a behind the scenes shot of everyone getting lunch between shots XD
EDIT: On another note, below is some utterly glorious and non-spoilery crossover fanarts featuring the Avengers ;D

I'm not waiting for the bluray, but yeah, I hope the DVD comes out sooooon, because I read on IMDB that
Spoiler:
According to director Joss Whedon, The original cut of the movie was over 3 hours long. There will be about 30 minutes of the excised footage included in the DVD Release, most of which revolves around Steve Rogers (Captain America). Whedon revealed that one of these scenes involved Rogers struggling to adjust to the modern world in his Brooklyn apartment and another revealed Steve Rogers' reunion with Peggy Carter, his love interest from Captain America: The First Avenger.

I can't wait to see Steve Rogers vs. a computer, or Steve Rogers vs. a coffee machine...and maybe some Hawkeye scenes? *hoping*

Oh wow.
Spoiler:
I kinda want to see Steve meeting the internet XD Or staring at a woman in a miniskirt in utter shock and being mistaken for a pervert or something :P

Also, Steve being reunited with an aged Peggy sounds utterly heartbreaking. I MUST SEE THIS.

Spoiler:
If Peggy's still alive, she'll be in her nineties at least. On the other hand, it'll probably help Steve get some closure. She probably has a family of her own; Steve's such a sweet guy that he'll probably just be happy to hear that she found someone else to give her that dance :)

(...thank you, Steven Moffat, for making me unable to read "dance" as anything but a euphemism -_-)

Other funny scenarios for Steve vs the future: Steve watching modern TV. Steve discovering modern music. Steve discovering Ann Summers. XD

Although it could also be really sad, him turning on the TV and finding out about stuff like the Iraq War. Also, he'll probably want to find out about how WWII ended, which will lead to him discovering about the Holocaust for the first time, probably. And the nuclear bombs. :(

[center]AMAZING. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AMAZING.

I don't even know where to begin. Mark Ruffalo was amazing. Tom Hiddleston was amazing. Chris Hemworth was amazing. Robert Downey Jr. was amazing. Scarlett was amazing. EVERYONE WAS FREAKIN' AMAZING.

Also, totally ship Tony and Banner. Just sayin'.

I'm going to need to watch it for a second time. Most definetly.
Why? You never win the cursed war.

StarkxBanner. Almost canon kinda maybe not really but we like to think it is. Scienceshipping?

Also, a point of curiosity for European watchers, because I've been wondering this for a while about big Hollywood movies that go out globally. If you were watching Avengers in a country that is not predominantly English-speaking, was it dubbed or subbed? Are big Hollywood movies like Titanic or Harry Potter generally dubbed or subbed? When I was in Italy I saw Harry Potter 7.2 dubbed, but we've also been to see English-language movies in Italy that were subbed. So I'm curious about which is more common and what you saw it in.
