Re: Diplomacy Round 2 (Pre-game)

Post by c-square »

Looks like Hoshi, tantei-chan has run into a time crunch and won't be able to play until the 16th.  So, I'm opening up the game to one more player if someone wants to join so we can start right away.  If not, then the game will begin on the 16th.
Callid wrote: OK everyone, as you probably know, I have quite a bit of experience playing Diplomacy, far more than anyone of you (unless you've been playing Diplomacy somewhere else then on this forum). So, the question is now whether I should make full use of it. If the game proceeded normally, I would likely win (probably in an allied victory, but still...). So, my question to you is:
Should I hold back? Basically, should I play with all my knowledge, using all the diplomatic and tactical tricks I know, or should I refrain from it? I wouldn't want to spoil the game just due to being more experienced :x
So, please tell me what you think.
Personally, I think you should play as you normally would.  Your experience may prove to be a bonus, or it may prove to be a liability.  Will people be more likely to team up with you because you have experience?  Or will people be more likely to team up against you because you're the experienced player?  That's up for the other players to decide, but I don't think you should hold back.  Of course, if the other players have an opinion about this, you all should speak up.  :)

Basically what c-square said, plus it'll be more interesting if you play as you usually do 'cause you'll have tactics we won't have thought of and it'll be much more challenging to go against you (which, imo, is more fun :D :-X). Besides, if you hold back it could get frustrating for you because you know you can do better, whereas if you don't hold back and we all put in a good effort the win will be more 'deserved' y'know... :D

Hmm, what about using the time until the 16th for diplomatic negotiations? I.e. no actual deadline until the 16th (or 18th or whatever), just diplomacy?
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.

Unfortunately, that would put Hoshi, tantei-chan at a big disadvantage.  I'm going to ask everyone to keep secret the country I've assigned you until the game officially starts.  In the meantime, I suggest people brush up on the rules and look at the strategy documents for their side.  It's a good opportunity to educate yourself on the game and it's tactics so that you can cut into the advantage some of the more experienced players have.  ;)

@Callid: Basically what's already said, and this go for everyone; don't hold back. Fair game for everyone. Let's keep this fun and exciting all the way through. \o/

@Silver1412: Ooh, an 8th player, is this possible? :o I don't mind at all (more the merrier! :D), but will leave it up to the GM to decide. :)

Nope, we can only go with seven.  Hoshi, tantei-chan will have to wait for the next game.

Silver1412, expect a PM from me in a few minutes!

Spring 1901
It's the dawn of a new century.  Seven countries stretched out across Europe awake to the idea of expansion and conquest.  There are lands out there, ripe for the taking, for those bold enough to venture forth.  Yet at the same time, there are dangers all around, and those who do not make allies may soon find war at their own doorstep.  Whatever the outcome of the next several years, history begins here.

PM your orders to me.  Orders may be replaced at anytime before turn end.  Turn will end when all orders are received.

Orders MUST be PMed by Tuesday, March 13 10:00 pm EDT

Hey guys! I really want to cry right now... As you know I was in a coma for the three months I was absent from the DCTP forums ~nya. Now being in a coma means I missed three months worth of school work, right? I think you know where I'm going with this, but they've given me a deadline of two weeks to do all the work and hand it in ~nya! So I'll have to forfeit from this round, even though I was really looking forward to it ~nya... Sorry guys. I REALLY am ~nya. I hope I'll be able to play in the next one...
