I really like the positions and expressions  It's like Akai is saying "Yeah, she's my girlfriend, what about it?" and Akemi is like "Huh? Who's there?"

In the sketch it almost looks like Akai is smiling 

Good coloring too ^^ Can't wait to see you shade some things >: D

You also don't have to call me sensei, though as I usually say "Call me whatever you like!" to people I guess that would also apply? xD So call me sensei if you'd reaaaally like, but know you don't have to

yes not a real holiday though, it's only a four-days school break.

I thought that too! hahaa in my mind I was thinking about akemi being an innocent girlfriend who has no idea that many guys are after her and akai being a protective boyfriend and thinking about the exact same thing you said "Yeah, she's my girlfriend, got a problem?" (stereotypical) ^_^
I tried to make him smile but I made him looked weird instead  t(　ﾟ Дﾟt） m(_ _)m
It's me the want to call you sensei cause you really taught me many things about how to color using sai n_n your tutorial reaaally help me a lot! so I will continue calling you sensei (＾▽＾)

I will also have a 4-days school break within two weeks! But this week I'll have a lot of exams, so  this weekend I'm studying a lot.

Way to be with your first shot at shading too  Usually takes a bit to get good at the works, especially cel-shading, but you did awesome!~

actually I've done a shading work too using your tutorial as a reference but it turns out badly cause I don't have skills like yours 0_0. someone like me need to gain much more xp (practicing, I mean) to get a good result

It's hard to do but you should really add Akemi's mouth : >.  It'll make the pic more complete!

As for shading it's important to remember that even though it's flat you're pretending that it's 3D.  Make sure you have a consistent light source.  If you're confuse about how to shade Gosho style face you can check out how Gosho sensei describes it : >.

I really like the AkaixAkemi drawing, the choice of colours is excellent and love the position where they are. However, for me there´s sth off in Akai´s left eye (not the left eye in our point of view), I think the eyeball is drawn too much to the top right side (our point of view). Maybe lowering it a bit may correct it. (I had this same problem/experience with my Kallen drawing, you see each eye by themselves and they look fine, but seeing them at the same time they seem off)

Like sonoci and Aokochan said, I also prefer the second background.

Finally just an idea, perhaps adding akemi´s right hand on Aki´s chest would make the drawing, let´s say, more lovely? (don´t misunderstand me, the drawing is as complete as it is)

I will try to make akemi's mouth then actually I won't fix the already-done file but I will make a new file,  because I don't have the sai file so if you have more advices please say so and many thanks for the info about the shading! as for my akai-akemi pic I made the light comes from front, does it look weird? x_x will fix the shading too then n_n

hi again all!
I'm thinking of joining a drawing contest. the theme is “Happy New Year of the Dragonâ€

uaah, that dragon looks nice!! I wish I could draw dragons... or backgrounds... stupid high detailed stuff I'm not good at...

I made a quick instruction based on the akai akemi drawing, hope u don't mind i used it ^^'

One of the first things to mention is that you used three light sources in your drawing:
1. light coming from the right
2. light coming from the left
3. the sunset: light coming from behind.
If you want to do the shading right it's best to start with one direction the light would come from.

For the quick shading I used lightsource three, because I love to keep it natural.
first i picked a point where the light would come from (see here), then did basic shades: only part of their bodies is hit by the sunlight, so I only left the edges unshaded.

As last step I added extra shades to make it look more natural. This is a hard step to describe because this mostly goes with what you think looks right. just keep in mind that you still have to use the lightsource you picked. The direction the light comes from hasn't changed.

(I haven't shaded akai much because the shading you did there was good. Also, for Akemi's ear you could add another layer to get what i did with Akai's ear (you don't have to). Same goes for her hair, add more shading if you think you need to(but don't try to overdo it))
