so when the Greybeards were like "go get this horn over here" you just walked to the other side of Skyrim without checking how far away it was first? :P

I thought Bethesda had said they were joking earlier and told parents specifically to not name their kids Dovahkiin, but looks like someone did it anyway  :-X

Considering that so far I have to walk everywhere except to the places I've already been to (I know there are wagons but those are for weaklings ::)) yes, unless I've been to a place that's closer.

well I mean, in my case I still walked over, but I checked my map first and when I saw how far away it was I just did other quests that slowly took me over there :P

and I didn't even know wagons existed until someone on teh itnernet mentioned em, but I haven't used one yet either.

I only run non stop if it's a quest I really want to do, but be it a long or a short distance I always take the straightest way possible (with the exception of a few detours :P). I saw that about the wagons when I quickly browsed through my extensive game guide that I got with the game.

Also creepy kids are creepy D:

I think I'm doing something wrong, as I just can't seem to get into this game.  I haven't played much, but it's really not grabbing me at all.  Part of it may be how often it lags, causing quite a bit of frustration.

Are you playing it on PS3?  Unfortunately, Bethesda, already having a bad reputation for having one of the worst QA teams known to existence as a big-named developer, also suck at coding for PS3.

In a nutshell, their is a slight game-breaking bug in Skyrim for PS3, due to a memory leak issue thats directly correlated to the size of the save file.  Once it hits over 6 MB, the game severely drops in FPS, texture quality, etc. etc.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think it may have to do with the PS3's RAM module, and an oversight by Bethesda coders not sufficiently allocating the resources, causing it to lag like a mofo.

There are some quick-fixes, like restarting your game about every hour or two so it doesn't get too slow, or turning off some system settings for more memory.  You can google em.  A patch is coming next week, so maybe it'll fix this issue, but don't have high hopes.

This is a recurring issue with Bethesda games on PS3.  The same memory leak was prevalent in Oblivion and Fallout 3, and they never really fixed or even addressed there was an issue.

I actually got this originally for PS3, realized this memory issue still wasn't fixed for PS3 also, the game is just poorly made for PS3 (despite PS3 being superior hardware-wise, it looks so much better on 360!), a nice dude at Gamestop (yeah I'm surprised too) allowed me to swap it for a 360 version.

I also DL'd a PC version of it, console command/hacked to the point where I was in the PS3, transfered the save to my 360.

So yeah, I've had quite an adventure with the game.

But, it's fracking awesome, last night my character went on an awesome adventure.

I'm an Argonian btw.  I'll share my experience later

Actually playing on the PC after reading that the PS3 version becomes unplayable after playing for a while due to the memory leak.  I just got to Whiterun, and only level 3, but really not feeling the urge to keep going.

I'm highly doubtful that the save bug is what GinRei's encountering though, because for that to happen you have to be playing on the order of 30 hours, and if he's complaining about not being able to "get into" the game, I doubt he's played it that long. :P
RM: Not playing on PS3 anyway so :I

Anyway, I'm not gonna lie and say "ur doin it rong if u no liek skyrim" if you can't get into Skyrim, there's definitely people who wouldn't like the game. Like an earlier conversation with Miaka: If you're the type of person who plays mostly JRPGs to get a consise, linear story where you learn about the backgrounds of a select few characters you get to know and love, Skyrim isn't gonna do that. Skyrim is more about exploration and discovery in a sweet Norse-inspired snowscape with lots to do everywhere.

Also, keep in mind, if you're playing the game a way like "I can tell this is the main quest, so I'm gonna go from point A to B", then you are in fact doin it wrong :V The Elder Scrolls series is supposed to be played more "I'm at point A, but I found point C along the way and that led me to point D who hints at point E so I'm gonna go off and explore F, G and H before finally going back and getting to point B". If that's not your cup of tea, then them's the breaks, but if you do like it, Skyrim does it ridiculously well.

Well, I like the nordic and snow themes.  I like being able to explore, though the low amount of enemies I've encountered may be part of my problem.  Not used to running around for 20 minutes and only seeing one wolf and a moose, which runs from me.  I randomly stopped in a bandit mine, and there was all of like... 7 bandits.

some of the caves etc can be pretty lacking in enemies, but you'll also stumble onto some caves with a lot more. Also, yeah for the most part you're not gonna find much to fight "in the wild" (except maybe bears and sabretooths), you're much likely to find stuff to kill at locations that show up on the compass, whether it's a mine/cave/mammoth+giant partyland or whatever. Also, try getting quests from people so that locations are actually put on your map, to let you better gauge how far away they are / the fact that the location's on the opposite side of a mountain or whatever.

That's pretty awesome, I prefer the killable children mod though.  After I kill a dragon, a kid goes up to the corpse and says something like "In all my years I have never seen such a thing!"
me: "Really..? In all your years? You're like 7!!! *stabs behind back with cool killing scene

Ginrei - I guess the question is, did you like Oblivion?  If you weren't too big on it, then you probably wouldn't like Skyrim a whole lot.  I mean, the games are essentially the same - nothing big has really changed except for some minor tweaks like sprinting, prettier graphics, etc.

Argonian as well.  I don't have much time to play though....

So I basically just spent the entire time robbing the world blind, emptying random caves...and then buying everything I can.  Haven't done the main quest at all yet.

Maybe I'll go seduce all those maidens and mens next. I wonder if there are any tsunderes?  I'll check out that mod as well.  PC ftw~

And ah yes...stupid frost trolls + mammoths.  Y u appear at the same place.

Never played Oblivion.

Anyway, just finished that cave with the Dragon Stone and then fought my first dragon.  That was... horribly anti-climatic.  It landed and breathed on me, and I took like... 5% damage?  What kind of weak ass dragon is that?  I'm just frying everything with double lightning.
