This technically isn't true b/c the planet Uranus also rotates clockwise, as its tilt is greater than 90 degrees so it is essentially rotating backwards as well, but it's so close to a 90 degree tilt, that we usually say it is just laying on it's side.

Trains have quite long braking distances, sometime even longer than one kilometre. At least if you don't want to destroy anything. But even with a full out emergency break it is quite long. Because of that all things that require the speed to be taken down is pre signalised. Lower speed by a sign one kilometre, if it is longer or shorted the distance is said with an other sign under the first sign. Signals (in this case mainlightsignals) however are pre signalised with an other signal, approach signal(?). Their distance is also normally at one kilometres distance. They have two to three lightopenings, green, white, green in that order. They're always twinkling so it will be known that they are pre signalling an other signal.

One green - Wait, stop
Two green - Wait, drive 40 (or higher if ATC or ERTMS allows it)
One white - Wait, drive 80 (or higher if ATC or ERTMS allows it)

I said before that the mainlightsignals with 4-5 lightopenings had a white light as well, that is because they can pre signal the next signal as well. If they do so they'll show one green and one of the above messages which will be twinkling.

Example:
One steady green light (always one)
One white twinkling

Means drive 80 (or higher bla bla), wait drive 80.

One steady green
One twinkling green

Means drive 80, wait stop.
