ThunderCats - Ho!

Post by Commi-Ninja »

A remake of the original.  Anyone have an opinion on this?

I watched pieces of the original a long time ago, and I really like it.  I don't know how I feel about it being remade, though.  To me, that's like remaking Scooby-Doo (which they have - many times) or TMNT (which was also remade).  I don't like the remake of Scooby-Doo at all, and I've only seen an episode or two of the new TMNT, so not really enough to form an opinion on it.

Some things should just not be remade!  But I'll give it a shot anyway.

I watched the original way back when as well and I believed I liked it. They even started showing the old eps on both CN and Boomerang, which I couldn't believe, but was awesome anyways. As for the new series, it looks good, and from what I've heard, it sounds alright, but I'll have to wait till Friday. Animation is nice though.

I agree that the animation is a step up, but that's to be expected.  I mean, the '80s aren't exactly known for good animation, good styles, or pretty much good anything. XD

It all depends on what they do with Snarf. :P

Also, while some things shouldn't be remade, I'm not sure if I think Thundercats falls into that category. Imo, the reason Scooby Doo shouldn't be remade is mostly because the show is pretty heavily associated with the 60s/70s (like with the mystery machine), so updating it seems a bit weird. Fantasy shows like Thundercats though don't really have that problem, so it has the chance to be good, but it depends on how they handle it.

The only downside to this is that now that people who buy Thundercats shirts at Hot Topic for the retro awesomeness will no longer be retro. :P

I agree about Scooby-Doo, definitely.  I'll wait to pass judgement on Thundercats until I actually see it.

It is not a remake, it is more of a continuation. It is set several generations after the 1980s cartoon.

They main characters are clearly reincarnations of the characters but are different. Liono is not the same for instance. And Snarf does not talk (best choice ever).

Oh Snarf's not talking? Didn't know that. I was wondering if it was a remake or a continuation for a while, though didn't know exactly where in the timeline it would take place.

Hm, dunno how I feel about that. I think he coulda been made better + not annoying even if he still talked, he just didn't have to end everything with "Snyaaaaaaaarf!"

Well, I just finished watching the episodes. I liked it, and it looks like it has set up various tensions for future episodes that I can't exactly remember if they were present in the original. And Snarf actually looks cute this time round maybe him not talking has something to do with it.

So I am currently watching the first episode, though I won't have time to finish it before I go to work.  So far, I really like it!  It's not one of those things where they try to re-do everything with updated animation or whatever (which is what I was afraid of).

In the middle of the first episode. I saw some merchandise vids, I suppose that isn't a surprise-

w-wait a minute! What about this "no merchandise until season 2" crap that got Symbionic Titan cancelled?! Oh you've got to be kidding me, what lying pieces of crap. I'm glad this series is clearly good but of course, rehashes win and anything creative and awesome loses. God I hate everything! :'(

Spoiler: thoughts after episode 1+2
Tigra: Silly Liono, there's no such thing as technology!
Liono: We've been at war with the lizards for generations!
*Lizards appear with night-vision, laser guided missiles, laser guns and mechs*
King: What sorcery is this?!

I feel like had the lizards done that a few times before they would have won pretty easily. Also if the traitor hadn't turned off all the mechs.

other than that though, the show's pretty sweet.

I will say my only problem with the series is it went through a bit much for 2 episodes. Maybe because I watch too much anime I dunno. Makes sense for the intro of a series of course.

Until the lizard who Liono saved gave him the key, I was worried they were going with a story of all the lizards are evil, helping people who are different is bad. :p

I just realized that Liono's voice actor was the guy who played Terry in Bayman Beyond :O

makes the show 10x better imo.

It's also the same guy who was Eric in Boy Meets World and Seifer in KH2.
