You do realise that was Moffat's intention from her first appearance, right? It's not a case of trying to convince you, it was there from the start and it's only just been fully revealed, sort of like the Jacket!Doctor thing from last year. I'll admit I'd half suspected River's identity though I wasn't certain 'til when she told the Doctor.
Spoiler:
Though, if River does marry the Doctor like previously implied then wouldn't that make...

...Amy his mother in law. I find that really amusing for some reason  ;D

yeah, I'm not sure what you mean by "convince" either, not like they're trying to trick you into it or anything, they outright said it :P

And yeah, I'm not a fan of River either, but for some reason I think this facet of her makes her a tad more likeable.

Random comment to keep the topic alive 'til Autumn (Autmn = Fall for those that don't know). Anyway:
Madame Vastra (the Silurian) and Jenny (her maid... And yes, it's another Jenny  ;)) were my favourite new characters from this episode, closely followed by Strax (the Sontaran).
I think Madame Vastra/Jenny is my new OTP in the Doctor Who fandom just in front of Doctor/Tardis...  :D

What I meant by convince is that you can't exactly say that a character that first appeared in the 2008 series was decided immediately by the writers to be the daughter of one of the Doctor's companion in the 2011 series.

Actually, as I've said before, Moffat introduced her for exactly that purpose. I'm fairly sure that at that point Moffat was aware RTD would be stepping down soon so he could do an entire story arc with River involved, not just a few episodes here and there. He may not have planned Amy's character yet but he definitely knew that River was going to be the daughter of a companion.
Also, I can't remember the source st the moment, but apparently when talking about Amy's character before Series 5 started he suggested there may be a connection between the two.
And, seriously, the guy plans ahead...

sorta goin off of what stopwatch said, your point would make more sense if it was another writer that made River Song, but she was made up by Moffat so he may have easily had such plans for her that early on, even if he didn't tell anyone.

Okay, so I just had a marathon and watched all seven episodes at a pop, and... WOW. Am I the only one who felt there was a fair upswing in quality from the last season to this one? "The Doctor's Wife" was probably my favourite. Being written by Neil Gaiman does that.
Spoiler:
The "River Song=Melody Pond" revelation was certainly a knockout, although I did see it coming a whole twenty seconds before she said it :P I sat there going "holy crap, is she- is she- is she?!" They are evil one and all for that cliffhanger, though. Very much interested, although the implication that Amy and Rory end up seeing none of their own daughter's childhood, or possibly any of her life up until she meets them as an adult, is one I find immensely tragic. The moment where Ganger-Melody melted in Amy's arms was just outright, physically painful as well. I think I actually curled up in pain at that point. Poor, poor Amy... Actually, there's a lot tragic about the whole River Song thing, not least her line about the worst day of her life being the one where she meets a Doctor so young that he doesn't recognize her... and how she thinks that just might kill her. Oh, River...

The other sad thing is that this utterly murders my pet theory that she was actually Jenny just messing with the Doctor. Oh well, at least she's also stoating around out there someplace being badass. And River is BADASS. The episode with the Silence? The fight scene at the end? She has multiplied Amy's badass and Rory's badass by each other and added Time Lord badass FOR THE WIN. Her relationship with her prison is also vaguely what I imagine Kaito's imprisonment would look like, if it ever happened.

I really liked the episodes with the Silence; extremely clever, but OH GOD THE NIGHTMARE FUEL. Sleep will not be my friend tonight. Doesn't help that they basically looked like Albino Dementors, especially with the mouth thing. Oh, the joy of getting a whole season at once; HOLY CRAP THE GIRL IN THE SUIT WAS RIVER.

The Siren one was clever, too. THANKS FOR GIVING ME A HEART ATTACK THINKING RORY DROWNED, GUYS. I love Rory so much. He gets more awesome all season, culminating in his whole superhero-getup scene at the end. The guy STARES DOWN CYBERMEN WITH SHIT BLOWING UP BEHIND HIM. BECAUSE HE LOVES AMY THAT MUCH. Protip, guys; Rory may not be the prettiest guy in the world, but he is still increasingly becoming every girl's ideal man. Amy is a lucky, lucky girl, and the best part of this season? She's clearly aware of it now, not running off with the Doctor like the others and ditching him. It's among the many reasons that Amy is awesome.

The Gangers episodes were definitely clever. I especially liked the two Mirandas. Rory slightly pissed me off with the whole Jenny thing, though. And the eyes were creepy as all hell.

Oh, incidentally, I love that alien chick with the sword. She was awesome. Me and dad have gotten a movie title out of it: Alien Lesbian Chicks With Swords. We're aiming for the male 16-24 demographic.

Eh, what else? All very cool. My new running theory is that River was in that space suit in the first episode.

well, depending on which age of river you mean, I think this was already sort of the connotation :P

And I'm not sure I preferred this season over last season. It had a few awesome episodes sure, but so did the last one.
