Yeah, I would. Your explanation a couple messages ago pretty much sums up why it would be a good move.sstimson wrote: next question is would you on R-N1, NxN go all the way to this?Spoiler:

White / Black
1. d2 - d4 / e7 - e6
2. e2 - e4 / Ng8 - e7
3. Nb1 - c3 / h7 - h6
4. Ng1 - f3 / g7 - g5
5. h2 - h4 / f7 - f6
6. h4 x g5 / d7 - d5
7. g5 x f6 / Ne7 - g6
8. e4 - e5 / Qd8 - d7
9. Bf1 - d3 / Qd7 - f7
10. Nf3 - h4 / Ng6 x h4
11. Rh1 x h4 / Ke8 - d8

Time to remove the king as an attack piece. This move frees the queen and bishop on the king side to go elsewhere, removes the threat, though weak, it may be, of B-B4 check and ends any threat of pinning my queen. This moves opens my options greatly.

I'm up for a queen trade if you are.
(As for the reasoning behind this move, see my note on trades from move #10)
Comments for people watching: The point system is very useful, but I often feel it's not complete. One example of this is a move that forces your opponent to move his/her king. By making your opponent move the king, you deny him/her the ability to castle. It definitely provides an advantage in the game, and in my opinion, should be worth 0.5 points. In other words, it's never worth it to lose a piece to force your opponent to move the king, but if you can do it with an even-value trade, go for it! Here's an example:
1. d2 - d4 / e7 - e6
2. e2 - e4 / Ng8 - e7
3. Nb1 - c3 / h7 - h6
4. Ng1 - f3 / g7 - g5

Interesting move. I hadn't considered that one. I was going to try and force you to move the king, but now I don't need to. Still, he's much better protected there than where he was before.sstimson wrote: Time to remove the king as an attack piece. @ C-square:
While I do agree that forcing the king to move is rather favourable, I'd say it's only worth about 0.3 points. Depending on the opening you use, castling may not even be desirable (French Defence!).

I guess the point value will differ depending on how you play, but the fact remains that it's usually worth doing an even-value trade if it means forcing your opponent to move his/her king for the first time.Callid wrote: @ C-square:

Re: Chess Game 13: sstimson vs. c-square
Not making a move yet, but close.
Questions: Moving the queen could allow the pawn to get close to queening.
So move the queen or not?
If I do move the queen, where to?
Rule of exchange to behind players. Do not exchange unless you either must as you have no choice or you gain a major advantage. Remember when behind you are at a disadvantage if you exchange, and that piece you are exchanging might be used or needed elsewhere
I will move as soon as I answer those two questions
