Wasn't trying to imply they were, just it was an interesting choice. It wasn't a remake to follow the manga since it started after the beginning, but it also wasn't a sequel to the first season. Be kinda like if season 3 picks up after episode 7 of S2. Nothing wrong with starting where you want, just and odd design decision, particularly if you are attaching "season 2/3" to it.
