The Mystery that is Aoko.

Post by TheBlind »

Like the topic says, I need help clearing up the mystery that is Aoko from true Kaito Kid fans. I have yet to read the manga, so I really don't know much about Aoko outside her DC appearances but is she usually so eccentric?

In her DC appearances she has found a number of random things "cute", sniffed a coaster(???), shown a short temper, and planned to introduce herself to the "Queen" as " I'm the daughter of  Inspector Nakamori who always gets beat by kid" and seemed genuine about it.

So what kind of person is Aoko actually, just a regular school girl portrayed out of character in DC or a very complex character that has a masterful poker face?

Since I'm here, also came across an entry on a random fan page saying she resembles a boy physically ???, is there any truth in this..if so does kaito make fun of her on this subject?

I don't hate Ran but from what I've seen, I would love to have Aoko's personality in nearly every episode instead.

The coaster part was amazing.

The thing is, they sort of changed things in the OVA version from the original manga version. (I actually own and have read all four volumes in Japanese enough to have memorized them.)

In the manga, Kaitou actually slips a pill into her drink, but what she actually said in the OVA was "This coaster smells really nice," because it was actually made of pressed flowers. (That was why she sniffed it.)

She shows a short temper only because of Kaitou's pervertedness most of the time, or because he's a total KID fan and her father is the inspector.

Also, they sort of messed up in the translation for that part where she says that they're going to meet the queen. The direct translation of what she says is: "I'm the daughter of Inspector Nakamori who makes life hard for KID!!!"

The last thing that you said about her "resembling a boy" is actually a joke made on her 17th birthday. When Kaito remembers that it is her birthday, he goes like, "But your breast and hips are still... Hey Aoko... Could you possibly be... a guy??"

That's all about it.
Personally, I like Aoko than Ran.

Wow, thanks. You cleared up everything in one single post. I was aware why she sniffed it but the scene made her seem like she had an extremely short attention span but now I know that it wasn't the original scene and it actually makes sense. The bold line about her figure...pure funny, they should of use that in the next Kaito and Aoko appearance. ;D

Aoko's really supportive of her dad (thinks her dad is the coolest).  In a competition between Black Cat (internationally famous theif), Kaitou KID (internationally famous theif), and the Japanese police force Aoko will say "of course my dad will win"!

She's not disillusional or anything, it's just that she'll always cheer for her dad even if everyone thinks the Japanese police force are teh dumb ;D.  She hates Kaitou KID because he doesn't seem to steal for any apparent reason, in turn he makes her dad exhaused and look stupid on TV.  She'll be the one girl holding the anti-Kaitou KID sign while all the fangirls around her go crazy for him.  That's not to say she doesn't think Kaitou KID is amazing (Hakuba versus Kaitou KID case) it's just that because she support her dad so she'll never admit it to anyone xD.

As for Nakamori Ginzo himself, he's quite obsessed with Kaitou KID and will be upset if Kaitou doesn't appear for a period of time.  Dispite the fact that Aoko's really supportive of him (brings him lunch during heist et etc...) he tends to forgets Aoko's birthday and she doesn't expect him to remember.  Aoko's mother is a mystery as she never appeared, she doesn't celebrate Aoko's birthday either (so either she's dead or she's forgetful as well).
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

Wow thanks for the additional information Kirite. Every time Aoko makes an appearance it just makes me laugh as she is so eccentric...even in scenes that aren't suppose to be funny. Like you said, she's the one always booing Kid in the crowd and it doesn't help that Minami voices her like..I can't even describe it, it just fits her. ;D

Found the line about Aoko hating Kid for making her dad look like an idiot on TV pretty funny because I can picture her reactions while watching TV(I need to read the manga). Kinda sucks though that her father doesn't remember her birthday and seems to forget about her (during the Clock tower OVA flashback), yeah he's a cop but I doubt even Kogoro forgot Ran's birthdays during his days.

I thought she supported Kid that one time because she wanted to go to the concert with Kaito rather than Hakuba... normally, she despises Kid because he stands for everything she hates: crime, disrespect for the law, her dad never being around... she's got a very deeply ingrained respect for the law from her father, along with his short temper XD
But normally, she's very sweet and a little childish (apparently in the japanese version she talks about herself in the third person, as little girls like Ayumi do) and she's very trusting- she has absolute faith that Kaito isn't Kid. She comes off as a little dim sometimes, but she's not- she does actually put the pieces together once and demands that Kaito takes her on a date on the day of a Kid heist so that if he's with her during the heist she has proof that he's not Kid (he only just manages it- this chapter was the debut of Tropical Land, though XD).
She also tries really hard with people. She's determined to be friends with Akako, though she doesn't seem to notice that Akako regards her as an obstacle.
Kaito frequently makes jokes that she has a "boyish" figure, but he also flips her skirt at every oppourtunity, prompting Aoko to try to chase him and brain him with a mop, which, whenever this has happened, is strictly ignored by their classmates and teacher. She likes magic, having hung out with Kaito since they were small, she just hates Kid.
She's also voiced by Minami Takayama, the voice of Conan.  ;D

They sound similar, but if you check the character credits on Wikipedia Minami Takayama is only credited to Conan, Aoko and of course herself XD

Wiki said it was Ayumi's voice actor beforehand....

I don't trust wiki on this issue now.
