For me it depends... Because their are subs there that are horrible, as well as dubs... there are dubs there that just doesn't get my taste.. So for me I'll go for the better one.
After 13 years and 535 episodes... Finally! XD

i prefer subs because hearing the native language helps to learn it a little bit, but it is not necessary to be english subs. if is french or spanish is better because i know better that languages. i choose dubs like the last solution if i can't find subs

Yeah, that's true.

If we look at some DC cases, it promoted location where the story took place (London arc was a definite example for that). But not only the locations that stories promoted, but aswell as culture, including japanese language. Japanese is a very popular language in the world thanks to manga and anime.

For me, it depends on the series, which is easier to find and just the overall quality of the dub. I typically prefer to watch subs as dubs arn't usually as good and some things can get lost in translation, but some series I just can't watch in Japanese, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad being a prime example. Also, sometimes dubs can be better if they feature characters with accents like Baccano or more historic animes like Romeo X Juliet where the dub uses Shakespearian English.

it depends on what i first started with. I don't like to switch right after i got used to someone's voice.
I prefer eng subs bec they're way faster than the dubs.

It depends on the series I'm watching. Some I like only the subbed version such as with Detective Conan. I was like that with Samurai Troopers until the OVA's came out; they at least fixed some of the problems with the dubbed version. Others I like both the subbed and dubbed version like Gundam Wing, Full Metal Alchemist and Inu Yasha. Then there are the ones that I really only like to watch the dubbed version because I'm both more familiar with the dubbed version and I just prefer it over the subbed version.

I prefer the original dub. When watching anime, it helps me learn to speak cliche version of Japanese : )

The only English dub i can choose over the japanese dub is the one in  Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Some international dubs in the projects like Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight are okay too.

It really depends for me, although, granted, it's been a really really long time since I've seen a dub of anything.  For the most part, though, I kinda prefer subs.  I like to see things in its original language and for some series, the original voices seem to suit the characters.  Of course, as I mentioned, there are some series where I don't mind either and it's pretty much stuff like .hack//SIGN and Cowboy Bebop.

Anywho, I prefer that for pretty much everything.  Like if there's a show that's made in America, I would want to watch it in its original form, not a dub of it (too much).  If a show was made in...Venezuela, I want to hear it in Spanish (Venezuela's dialect as well), as opposed to an English dub.  I guess you see where I'm going.  In general, I just wish we had more choices in that regard; dub or sub as opposed to one over the other.

English subs, definitely. You'd gain better eye-ears coordination after watching so many of them that you'll end up not minding subtitles at all - even for movies that are already in English in the first place. ^-^

But for some reason, I liked the Eng dub of Wolf's Rain, the ending of which must've been terrible because I absolutely can't recall.
Didn't have its counterpart subs to compare it with though.
I might have liked that more because my fave seiyuu is in the lead role.

OTOH, there's Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X of which I got to watch both the subs and the dubs. And I must say, the SUBS felt a hundred percent more natural. The dubs made Kaoru sound a bit too girly-girly or meek for my taste when she should've sounded tougher being a dojo instructor and all. Misao, meanwhile, sounded too mature with that deep voice they gave her for someone who was hopelessly crushing on Aoshi. I don't know. Just seemed to me like a reversal of attitudes.
Found wrote: English subs, because I'm a fast reader. I know a lot of people who prefer dubs because they can't, or are too lazy to, read the subs.

And I'm too traumatized with voices that are different from the original seiyuus. Filipino dubs are simply horrible.
I mostly agree with the horrible part. Especially with what they did to DC. T.T
Although, I find myself liking the Filipino voices of Spongebob and Luffy. Not really sure though because I'm sticking with heaven-sent subs for any anime. Besides, I was only passing by the TV when I caught a bit of the dialogues so...
BTW, once, I also caught my mom laughing at the first episode of Gintama when Shinpachi made that breadcrust comment in Filipino. ^o^
I don't know. Subs definitely get my vote 99% of the time. But you can't deny that there are rare cases in which the dubs just work for you somehow. I'm sure most of us watched anime for the first time in our own native languages. I remember watching Mojacko and Yu Yu Hakusho in Filipino as a kid and lovin' it.

english subs, because I never watched english dubs, only german .. and I like some series more in german than original, because I started watching them in that language and got really used to the voices (*feels nostalgic*) (like DC, even though today I might prefer the original, just because german versions cut so freaking much); however, I don't mind the subs, I'm actually very much used to reading them, slovene dubs are pure horror, so I don't really watch anything dubbed in my language :P

no, I lied about never watching eng. dubs! I prefer DBZ in english (or german, if they didn't cut it so much!!!) :3
and I watched a few episodes of english Digimon and it was just really bad .. at least the first two seasons (with Mimi and Kari's horrible voices ~~)

but if I start watching something new, I never look for dubbed versions, I just watch the original one
