No one's been watching DC for the cases for YEARS, don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.  :)
I understand your point, but to reply a bit literally- if no one has been watching DC for the cases, people wouldn't watch many of the episodes. From 500-598, there have been 11 BO cases, a handful of ShinRan cases, some Kaito cases that don't advance the plot, and the useless ShiratorixKobayashi episodes. That leaves 75-80 non-plot related cases, yet people still apparently watch those episodes.
Detective Movies Contest 2013: Information Thread  Current Faceoff

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

First of all I was only being half serious. But the fact is most people seem to be far more interested in any entertaining character/plot related moments than the cases. And considering some of the cases, if there was no plot I probably would have stopped watching forever ago. At this point unless they do a case that is really good or different I typically care more about the characters, the plot, the high quality voice acting and the music more than the cases. (but I admit the fact that the cases by themselves almost never matter after they are finished doesn't help. Cause even in the early parts of the series what little plot there was usually interested me more.)

I'd rather not go into a full rant into this though as I just did one recently and I'm trying very hard not go into "you're an idiot who is wrong and only my opinion is right ever" mode considering how I am a huge fan of the plot.

Most overrated franchise on the planet.

There, I said it.

/And the one on the NES is the most overrated "classic game" on the planet.
//I don't care what anyone says, music's great and all that, but the gameplay is just so ass-backwards. I don't care what anyone says, some of that stuff in that game you NEEDED a strategy guide for. And I'm one of the last people to ever say anything like that.

You forgot the story that is referenced by people only so they can laugh at it. Except for stupid people that pretend it's brilliant because if they don't know what's going on it's obviously "deep" and "genius ::)

I'd still take it over the Michael Bayriffic dead horse that started as the last good World War 2 game, Call of Duty.
