Kudo Shinichi Fanfic: In The End

Post by Fenris »

This is branched from the Kaito Kid Fanfic I originally started. Kudo will start out in the hospital after waking from unconsciousness, soooo~ You should read the Kaito Kid one first. Also, at some points I may go back to the Kaito Kid Fanfic as I please to continue with it after a few days pass to give the absolute feel of suspense I suppose? I did leave it off at a juicy part! I... think... ANYWAYS!

With that said, on with the show! <3

- - - - - - - - - - - -

It felt as is a heavy weight was slowly being lifted off from his body, leaving it numb and still; useless and exhausted. He felt as if he had just run twenty miles the day before after doing five hundred crunches. In other words; he hurt. Slowly letting out a sigh, he struggled to open his eyes against the bright light of the room.

Where was he? White? A... lot of white... a hospital? That would explain the sharp pointy things on the nearby counter and vase full of a colorful assortment of flowers. he slowly closed his eyes again and relaxed, trying to regain even the slightest bit of energy. How long had he been out? From the pain he felt, not too long. Maybe a day or two at most.

He could faintly remember the events of that night for the time being; the shock must have gotten to him. After all, seeing Gin out of no where forcing Kaito Kid to steal for them was a bit out there... Two rivals, one dangerous, one friendly... both against each other... it was like a love triangle gone wrong.

After a few moments of quiet thinking, he soon noticed something very peculiar. His left leg was unnaturally warm... it was nice, but what was that...? He peered across the blankets to see the brown haired beauty he called his 'neechan' laying her head against the blankets, exhausted. He was absolutely surprised; of course, this would be safer for her. In fact... where was Mouri? He panicked a bit, then searched for at least one of his cell phones, even the earing phone would do. None were in sight. this was bad; did the police confiscate them? BOTH cellphones and all of his gadgets? What if someone called Shinichi's phone and just blurted out his birth name!? This was bad!

He growled to himself in irritants before attempting to sit up, though, a sharp pain in his back said otherwise, forcing him to stay down. He let out a groan of pain and gave up, staying as a weak little form hidden under the mess of thin blankets.

The slight motion was enough to wake Ran from her little nap. She blinked, the sat up and stretched while yawning. Her back ached from sleeping in that position; of course, this was her own fault. They had suggested she take up one of the free beds since the police hospital had extra rooms quite a bit of the time.

Her eyes slowly moved to gaze over the weak, hurt child laying in the bed. She took a moment to let her mind take this in before smiling and relief. "Thank goodness, Conan! Are you alright? What am I asking, of course you're not!" She frowned, moving hair from his face. "What happened, Conan? I only heard that you were in the hospital from the inspector, so me and dad rushed down..."

"Uh... I can't remember...?" Conan said, looking down to the left. "I just remember being on the roof of the school, and then everything is all a blank, Ran-neechan..."

"You're lying Conan, I know it..." Ran said with a pout. "You always lie when you're in trouble..."

Conan looked up at Ran with a bit of surprise, then looked to the side again. "I'm sorry, Ran-neechan. I can't remember..."

Ran stared at him intently for a long moment, then sighed. She couldn't win with him. "Inspector Meguire wanted me to tell him when you were awake. He said that he wanted to know what happened, even if it was the smallest thing that could help." She smiled down at Conan and placed her hand over his little hand. "Feel better soon, Conan-kun. Okay?"

"Uh... ah!" Conan nodded slightly, then smiled up at her. "I'll try, Ran-neechan!"

Ran grinned to the recovering youth, then headed out of the room. Conan was able to relax a bit once more and close his eyes before the questioning would begin. they would ask about the cellphones, the conversation heard over the phone... everything. He would be exposed... he knew it; they had all the evidence they needed. If only there was a way to get them to keep their mouths shut about it. Maybe have them write a fake report? Something that had nothing to do with either Kaito Kid nor the black Organization. Maybe Conan had been dragged the to school rooftop and beaten mercilessly because of one of the Detective Boy cases where he took lead? (Per usual.) That would work... IF the police went along with it that is. Of course, he still did not know how far their investigation had gone. They probably had found out the identity of Gin through blood tests. After all, conan had shot him. That was useful, but... if a policeman were to investigate on the Black Organization, they'd be able to find out... that would be bad...

This was all so bad...

Inspector Meguire and officer Takagi walked into the room, a few bits of supplies in hand. one being a tape player, a folder of notes from the crime scene, and a notebook for what they would collect from the questioning. Conan looked to the two of them, not even pretending to smile. The situation was grave for not only him now...

"Hello, Inspector, detective." Conan said before looking up to the ceiling once more. The inspector pulled at his mustache, giving a worried look. "How are your wounds? You're feeling alright I hope?"

"Uh, yeah..." Conan said before looking to them again with a smile. The Inspector nodded with a simple agreement. Takagi walked over to Conan and grinned down at him. "You really are strong though! Every time you come to the hospital, you are always in such a bad condition. You should be more careful."

"Oh, yes sir!" Conan said with a grin. before looking back up to the ceiling. he felt nervous as to what they would ask. Did they know he was really Shinichi? He didn't know how to react at the time; like Shinichi, or like Conan. This was the one this the wanted to know; just how far into the truth have they already traveled.

"Well then. Shall we begin? Since you are too wounded, we will conduct the interrogation here." The Inspector said as he grabbed two chairs and placed them by the bed. "That is alright with you, I'm sure?"

"Y-yeah, sure. Though, my mind is a bit foggy right now. It may take a little bit to remember everything..." Conan said before bringing a hand up to rub his eyes as he yawned.

"That is alright. There are a few other things we'd like to ask you about..." Takagi said in a serious tone before taking a seat in one of the chairs that inspector Meguire had brought over.

"I can guess..." He said before building up his strength to slowly lift himself up to lean against the head of the bed so he could sit upright. He placed the pillow behind his back and relaxed, waiting for the questions to be fired at him.

"R-Right..." Takagi started as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Anyways, the first priority is what happened... Why were you on the roof of the Teitan High School, Conan?"

"Er... too meet Kaito kid...?" Conan chuckled nervously, then gripped at his chest in pain. He was really banged up...

"yes, we caught that from your little... phone call." Takagi said with a slight chuckle.

"Why did you go after Kaito Kid there though?" The Inspector asked, pulling at his Moustache once more.

"It's fun to chase after Kaito Kid...?" Conan said with a grin. "Since he isn't a violent guy, I never have to worry, so it's fun!"

Takagi frowned, then sighed. Such an intelligent kid to figure out Kid's code, though... Maybe it really was true... "Alright then. What happened when you got there? From what you examined, there was a struggled in the Janitor's office with some of your blood on the wall, most likely from being thrown against the wall by someone large. Also, there was a struggle on the roof between three people, Kid, you, and the man whom almost killed you. We also heard two voices that seemed not to belong to either you, or Kid. Can you give us descriptions of them?"

"Uh, er... I can't remember that clearly. Most of it is still a blank. If what you said about me being thrown into a wall is true, then that would probably be why..." Conan said nervously before looking towards the window. They were getting close, dangerously close.

Takagi sighed, shaking his head. This was going no where. He was hiding something, it was obvious. At least, not until they asked something straight forward and found out the truth. Was he really... really him? "Conan... this questioning is going nowhere. So, may we ask you about something me heard on the tape recording?"

Conan felt his heart stop as dread fell over him. He chuckled softly to try and hide his fear before looking to them with a smile. "Sure thing, Detective Takagi!"

The Inspector cleared his throat then looked Conan in the eye. "We heard something strange in the conversation, an I want this to be cleared... why was Kudo Shinichi's name said?"

Conan felt his throat become dry as the question he dreaded was asked. He looked the Inspector in the eyes, building up an act to make him seem calmer. I don't know. I was wondering that myself, Inspector."

"By the conversation we heard, it was pointed to you, Conan-kun. Now, will you explain this to us? And as to why you have all of these weird gadgets on person, and the two cell phones?"

Conan blinked, then made a nervous chuckle. "What are you talking about? I'm always around the professor. He likes to have me test those silly things. They're fun to play with too!" He grinned big and acted as innocent as possible to try at fool the two. It had worked a bit in swaying their beliefs.

"Please, tell us the truth. We always knew you were an oddly intelligent boy; and you appeared around the same time Shinichi Kudo became a scarce site." Takagi said with a frown.

And when uncle became a famous detective out of the blue... Conan thought, chuckling to himself on the inside. No matter what he could say, nothing could change this situation. They were going to investigate the crime scene, search up on Gin and Vodka, and whomever it was would be assassinated. He had to tell these two, but only if they swore secrecy with their life.

"Conan...?" Takatgi pestered. Conan bit his lip, then sighed and looked to Takagi. "Will you promise absolute secrecy, Inspector Meguire, Takagi?"

"Eh? You mean a confidential report?" The Inspector asked, pulling at his mustache. "I guess we could do that..."

"No, I mean no report. Or a fake report." He said with a smug look.

"C-Conan. We can't do that, that's illegal..." Takagi started before Conan rolled his eyes. "Oh my, the whole night is blank in my mind. I think I was too shaken up to remember anything." He mocked before looking out the window. Takagi and the Inspector shared worried expressions as they looked to each other. The Inspector thought about it for a moment, then sighed and said, "Depending on what reason you give us, we will decide that ourselves." The Inspector said, pulling harder on his mustache.

Conan knew that was the best he could get from them. He kept his gaze from them, staying concentrated on the scenery outside as he collected his thoughts. "I am Kudo Shinichi..." He said before giving them a serious look. "And those men are the ones whom shrunk me."

"And that's the story..." Conan said with a long, heavy sigh. He had just ranted on and on about the simple things. He was sure not to give the Police enough hints to actually track these people down, and made sure to say nothing about Haibara being tied into this at all. He'd leave her as a freakishly intelligent child prodigy. He crossed his arms weakly, leaning his head against the pillow, Takagi's now ripped up notebook by his side.

Takagi and The Inspector just stared at his; flabbergasted. There was not much they could say to something liek this. This was a science fiction! Takagi finally swallowed hard, then spoke. "Well, thank you for telling us everything Cona-... Kudo. We will... keep this all a secret then... but... what do we place in its stead now that we've shut down the investigation?"

Conan was about to respond when another teenager broke in. "Ahoh! Are you ignorant or something? It's simple! Say that some scetchy men had been stalking little Edogawa Conan for helping solve one of those Detective brat mysteries."

"Boys, Heiji... Boys!" Conan spat at his Osakan 'brother' detective. He was so hot headed.... and that famous phrase of everyone down there bugged him whenever he put it in someone's face.

"Whatever..." Heiji said before continuing. "Are you guys taking note of this or am I wasting my breath on you!?" Takagi jumped, then quickly grabbed the notebook from Conan and started writing this down. "Alright then! They dragged the little brat to the High School, planned to murder him there, then, out of the blue, Kaito Kid comes and scares 'em off with that fancy card gun of his!"

"Eh, why that lousy thief?" Conan mumbled, giving Heiji a sly, annoyed expression.

"Because, he was there, wasn't he!? you have to add him in somehow!" Heiji said before folding his arms across his chest proudly.

The Inspector frowned, not enjoying this situation at all. Falsifying evidence... if they were found out, they would be kicked off the force! He pulled at his mustache quietly as he watched Takagi work. This would be for the better though, right...? Conan had told them he had a group helping him, though he didn't go into detail about them... maybe they could do it...? Maybe... that group meant the rest of the Detective boys...! ... Nah. Couldn't be.

Conan sighed and shook his head. "You're really noisy, you know that, Heiji?" conan said to him before sitting up a bit and moving his pillow back down against the mattress. Heiji grinned as his eye twitched in anger. "Ahoh! I come to see if my brother is alright after being beat shitless by those B.O. freaks, and this is the thanks I get!?"

"You barged in on us half way through me being debriefed!" Conan yelled back before grabbed his side. "K-Kudo...?" Hattori stuttered seeing the pained expression. Yelling was not a good idea for poor Edogawa Conan. He felt the dizziness coming to him again as he slowly moved to lay back down. "Sh-shit... Oh, Inspector... did the nurse leave any note of what exactly was wrong with me? This pain in my back and sides is getting worse. Not only that, but I'm really dizzy."

The Inspector perked up, then nodded. "I'll go call the nurse to check on you then. She can probably give you some pain reliever medicine." He got up and soon left the room leaving the three of them for the moment. Conan looked to Takagi and smiled. "Hey, Takagi. Please don't tell anyone my secret. Especially Ran. Even just the slightest hint will set her off of a tanget to find out."

"Why don't you just tell her, Conan...?" Takagi asked with a frown. "If it is making her stress over it, you should tell her..."

Conan copied Takagi's expression as he looked up to the ceiling. "Becau-"

"Because it'd put her in danger." Heiji said calmly for once. "Not only that, but if she's like Kazuha, she'd feel even worse if you told her the truth, neh, Conan?"

"Ah... she's the one whom worries for people, cries alone, and puts other's missery on herself... I cannot tell her such a depressing story... especially after having hid if for so long."

Takagi hesitated, then sighed. "Just like a superhero in disguise, hiding your identity from your love interest and the rest of the world."

"I'm not that super, officer..." Conan said with a smile before The Inspector followed by a lovely nurse waltzed into the room once more. The nurse walked over to Conan and checked his sides to see if he had pulled something out of place, or ripped a muscle. She explained that his injuries were very simple while doing so. His leg would heal perfectly; the bullet ran right through the flesh, but only nicked to bone enough to cause a hairline fracture. His head had a concussion, hence the dizziness, and the overworking on his muscles and probably a bad fall at the same time would have caused the sores and aches. He would be better within a week or so, but he was not allowed to leave the hospital until then.

As she left after giving him some medicine, she looked to the Inspector and Takagi. "Could you get Ran and Uncle out of the open? I don't want them to be targetted because of me..." The Inspector nodded with a smile. "They're still in the waiting room for now. But from what you told us, there are not many good hiding places for them."

"Here..." Conan said with a smile. "Leave them here. I can contact Agent Camal from the F.B.I. and his wife Jodie to come and take care of them! They'd love to help.

"Eh? Why Jodie too?" Takagi asked. Conan chuckled, then winked to the officers. "Trust me, neh? Have I ever steered you wrong?"

The Inspector and Takagi looked at each other then back at Conan. "Yes." they chorused with fake irritable looks as conan chuckled nervously and shank a bit under his blankets. "Hey, hey!"

"I'll stay here with Kazuha for a few days too." Heiji said boldy before looking down to Conan with a grin. "We wanted to tour around here for a bit. Plus, with the great detective down for the count, I can't let crime run free again!"

"Oh, hah-hah." Conan mused before sighing and relaxing against the comforts of the bed below him. He looked to The Inspector and Takagi again and smiled. "You guys should get back to the station soon. It would look funny if it took you too long to get a little kid to spill everything."

Takagi blinked, then looked to the Inspector. "Er, it is getting late, sir. We should write this... report... and return to our job..." The Inspector quietly nodded before heading out of the room. Takagi blinked in awe at the Inspector's strange attitude before quickly following after him. "Seeyah, Conan! Feel better!"

"Of course!" Conan called back, wincing from the pain in his chest before looking to Hattori. "So, tell me why you stayed really, Heiji."

"Eh? Wh-what do you mean, Kudo?" Heiji nervously asked with a chuckle. "I came to see my poor wounded brother!"

"For a 'few days'?" Conan asked with a glare as he crossed his arms. "Spill."

Heiji chuckled, then took Takagi's old seat. Nice and warm... "Well, honestly... you've had all of these great escapades between you and Kid..."

"I knew it!" Conan grinned. "You think after all of that, he'll show up here in public and see if I'm dead yet, eh?"

"Hah-hah... busted..." Heiji said with a goofy look before relaxing against the back of the chair. "He's bound to show up though. after all, you saved that peace-loving Kid's life."

"N-not really..." Conan said with a chuckle. "You got here half way through this part... he was being forced to steal the Mela Verde for them for some reason... I'm surprised he has a connection with the Org. though..."

"And who's this Kuroba Toichi...?" Heiji asked himself, leaning his chin against the palm of his hand in thought.

Conan woke from his evening nap as he heard something like balls rolling against a flat surface. His eyes opened wide as he quickly sat up, only to be greeted by the horrible dull pain in his back. The window was open now letting in the cool summer breeze. He could have sworn it was closed before he fell asleep... which meant...

He quickly looked around the room, his heart picking up a quicker pace as his adrenaline began to run again. Who? Where?

He heard a clatter to his right as he quickly looked over to stare straight down the barrel of a gun. He felt faint suddenly at the sight as he slowly looked up the white tuxedo covered man. "K-Kaito... Kid?" Conan whispered under his breath.

Kaito smiled, cocking the gun. "I am afraid you have gone too far this time, little detective. They took my family hostage because of you, and said that they would release them after you were disposed of."

"H-Hey, wait!" Conan yelled warily. "I saved your ass back there. Those guys are dangerous!"

Kaito smiled, then pulled the trigger. A bouquet of white roses popped out right in from of Conan's face. "You fall for parlor tricks much to easily, little detective."

Conan simply blinked, then looked away angrily. "You have a lot of nerve..."

Kaito chuckled, taking the flowers out from the gun and sticking them in the vase with the others. "I'd have to have nerves to announce my heists, now wouldn't I?" He winked to Conan, then pocketed the fake gun. "Oh... by the way... you know those guys?"

"Er..." Conan blinked, then chuckled nervously. "D-Did I say that?"

Kaito gave Conan a smirk as he crossed his arms, waiting for a response. "It was hell trying to get away from Hakuba with a concussion this morning. So you'd better have one hellova story to tell me."

"Only if you explain your situation." Conan said bluntly before smiling to Kaito. "Otherwise I'll call for /Heiji to come in. He's been waiting to meet you."

"Eh? Another Kid fan?" He asked, pointing to himself in surprise.

"Of course not! Who'd be a fan of a lousy thief like you?" Conan said before making himself comfortable again. "You got a concussion?"

"Er... hah-hah... yeah... some 'Bourbon' guy hit me or whatever." He said with a nervous grin. "Really hard too. I was out like a bat a few moment later."

Conan froze up for a moment, then swallowed hard. "B-Bourbon? He was there...?"

"Er, yeah. You know that person? Honestly, I couldn't catch a voice or face so he completely threw me off. I didn't notice him because of the surprise of seeing Chris..."

"Ch-Chris? Chris Vineyard!?" Conan asked curiously. They usually would not knock out someone so harmless. There was no need for it. Chris was a bit sadistic, that was obvious; but somewhere is that old, cold, black heart of hers, there was hope. After all, the Organization still did not know of his own identity. Or, at least he hoped.

"Eh!? You know her too?" Kaito asked confused. "Well, sure, she's the daughter of a famous actor and all, but... she's a rarer site than flying pigs, I swear..."

What a corny joke... Conan thought to himself before sighing. "No, they are one in the same, Sharon and Chris. But this is not the time for that... did you actually deal the Mela Verde over to them?"

"Uh... yeah... well, more of they forced me to, little detective. Even if it is a threat, I don't want to put my mom in danger..."

"Oh... so that's who you are?" Conan said with a glint in his eyes. It was positive now. He did have a foggy memory of the conversations last night, but he could remember the names and main points. "You are Kuroba... Kuroba..." He looked up to the ceiling for a long moment in thought. "Bah, I'll have Jodie look it up for me later." He sighed, then looked to the nervous Kaito. "Bah, don't worry. You're an idiot thief to me still. Hakuba may still want you behind bars, but if you quit your little masquerade; who knows. I'll leave you be."

"Uh... er... how generous of you..." Kaito said with an exasperated expression. He rubbed the back of his neck, then sighed.

"Anyways... did anything else happen?" Conan asked curiously.

Kaito simply nodded and looked up to the ceiling as he pocketed his hands. "Yeah, they drugged me. But so far there are no affects. She said I'd die, but I'm still up and thriving."

Conan blinked, then went wide eyed before cracking up. "Sh-She gave you a sugar pill!?" Conan mocked before wiping a tear from his eye. "You're damned lucky. If she didn't like you, you'd either be dead, or cursed like me."

"C-Cursed...?" Kaito asked. He caught on quick though as he made a strange expression. "So that is how you are connected to them... you've been chasing them for about as long as I have..."

"Almost as long?" Conan asked before something came to mind. "Is that your motive to steal? Really?"

"What, to lure those scum bags out one day? Why, of course." Kaito said with a mock fluid bow.

Conan thought about all of the facts quickly, then nodded. Everything pieced together wonderfully then. Except for one point. "Why big gems?"

"E-Eh? Oh... that... well, the organization had been after the Pandora for a bit... Basically a gem within a gem that during the Volley comet cries tears of eternal life. It's just a myth, but they've been chasing after it for maybe ten years now..."

"Ten years...? The organization is really that old?" Conan asked before looking up to the ceiling again. This was worse than he thought. If they were even just ten years old, they would have spread to a great distance by now. He thought for a long moment, then looked to Kaito. "Hey, I wonder if Chris and Bourbon will say they killed you, or your father. You probably should go into hiding; and Kid should probably disappear for your own safety..."

"Disappear...?" Kaito asked as he looked to Conan seriously. "Just how big is this group...?"

"I am not sure; but they are big enough to get the attention of other countries." Conan said as he brought his hand to his chin.
