I'm actually waiting for Aoyama to start winding down DC. I love the Harry Potter series much more than Detective Conan. THERE I SAID IT! Is it blasphemy to do so on this forum? Maybe. But I said it anyways. >_>
I agree with you about that ^^ If we are talking about the books that is  >.>

Yes, we're talking about the HP books because books will always pwn the crap out of movies (even though the HP movies are actually pretty decent IMHO.)

They are okay films but when compared to the books I can't enjoy them. If I turn off the books when seeing them they are quite good, albeit some parts are odd.

tbh, I'm glad that in a few months the final movie will be released and then HP will finally be behind us all, which might help me with my stuff.

Anyway I'm not sure just how correct the movies are in whatever they adaptate, but it seems like in the first four (and somehow the fifth and sixth as well) are all doing the exact same thing.
- They go to school
- Something suspicious happen (gee, I wonder who is behind it?)
- more stuff happen
- they go to defeat the evil
- crap happens
- have we said climax?
- have we said obvious deus ex machina is obvious?

It all seems very repetitive and unoriginal with a look back at everything.

tbh, I wish that in a few years the final episode will be released and then DC will finally be behind us all, which might help me have more time.

Anyway I'm not sure just how correct the episodes are from the manga they adaptate, but it seems like in the first five hundred episodes (and somehow the fifty afterwards as well) are all doing the exact same thing.
-Conan and company go somewhere
-They meet a few people who probably have grudges with one-another
-Someone dies
-Police arrive, alibis are collected and suspects are questioned
-Conan puts together the evidence
-Conan shoots Kogoro (possibly Sonoko), solves the case in his stead
-People are shocked, the criminal debates with Conan
-Conan reveals the final piece of "key" evidence
-Did that criminal actually have a reason to confess, was the evidence actually enough this time?

It all seems very repetitive and unoriginal with a look back at everything.

(My point: yes, HP books do at points follow a formula of "they go to school where bad things happen and they solve it", but many things can be broken down into seemingly formulaic structures. Doesn't mean they're any worse because of it, though. :P)

manga is a different media from novels, so this analogy can't come through 100%.
While I agree that it's the same formula (which is a reason for why many people left the series too), I don't find this analogy working. The main reason being that Conan is a "case monster of the 3 weeks" thing which is supposed to be repetitive, while on Harry Potter, I'm not sure it was the best approach.

You can compare anime and TV shows together:
Detective Conan
Sailor Moon
Smallville
Power Rangers
Scrubs
etc.

These shows are supposed to be repetitive because they are meant to continue for a really long time, but when you write a book, you can do things differently. Take LOTR for example, it was an ongoing story which didn't stop, and the characters didn't have a summer break in the middle.
(btw, I don't forgive the deus ex machinas in HP, as much as I don't forgive them in Conan. Not to mention that both the white glasses boy and the asian glasses boy are complete Gary Stus.)

The seventh book doesn't exactly follow that format... actually, neither does the sixth, at least towards the end. The good guys get a right gubbing there.

I actually like the layout of the books. As i've mentioned, I like how they grew up with their readership, but I also love the foreshadowing. I love how seemingly minor interactions and things from early on turn out to have been very important later- or even quite major things turning out to be part of something bigger still, long after you thought they were done with. It's something I loved about the Furuba manga too.

That said, I do think Power Of Love is overused a bit, though given the nature of Voldemort's existence it might be intentional. Sort of "go with what works" :P

Power Of Love is the exact same thing as Ultimate Sword Of Power.

btw, I don't try to pretend that I'm any better than Rowling in writing. The way it is planned now, some things will be repetitive in my books as well, it just annoys me that I can't think of anything better than repeating something that has already happened.

There's nothing new under the sun. You know the theory of the seven stories? The Harry Potter books can also be fitted almost precisely to the Hero of 1001 Faces, like Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, Pokemon, etc. The trick is to do the same old thing in a new way.

Hence why i'm a manga fan XD

(Though I think DC maybe drags out the foreshadowing TOO long... from the rate he's going, by the time Aoyama explains what was on Miyano Elena's tapes we're all just going to go "tapes? What tapes? Who stole my zimmer frame?" XP )
