The Movies are horrible adaptations yes.PhoenixTears wrote: Actually, I kind of agree with xpon. The movies are kind of awful.
I love the books though.
But to someone that hasn't read the best form of the story, the movies probably tell a pretty good story. (Speculations, as I have read and enjoy the books)

True, they're probably pretty good movies if you haven't read the books - as with most movie adaptations. (Keyword there being "most," of course.)Freyr wrote: The Movies are horrible adaptations yes.

I liked Harry Potter to a point.... I sorta lost interest around book 5 but forced myself to finish... The movies don't stack up... They rarely do.... And even when they do, they still can't compare to the book.... But at the very least they can give you characters to imagine if your imagination sucks.... That is providing that the movie was well cast.

In the case of Harry Potter, I think most of the roles were cast fairly well (and two in particular were absolutely fantastic: Umbridge, and Bellatrix).
Also, I agree with xpon about Eragon. That movie... it's a travesty, really.

Re: The Harry Potter topic.
Didn't read the books, therefore I have no problems with they film - they are OK for me.
btw, many movie adaptations from books will suffer. The ones who decides what's in and what's out are the director and the script writers. For example, the director may think that conversation X isn't important and isn't needed, or that character Z doesn't do anything releavant, so s/he's not important. Side stories from the book would rarely appear in the film.
You also have to realize that you can't just squeeze everything from the book into 2 hours.

Or even 3-4+ hours, sometimes.Kor wrote: You also have to realize that you can't just squeeze everything from the book into 2 hours.

And yeah, I understand all of that. But with HP, they cut out some of the important things and completely screwed up some of the plot points, so.

Also, I'm definitely not pleased with Lupin's casting.

Re: The Harry Potter topic.
I never said the casting was poor in any sense... Could they have done better for some characters? Damn straight they could have. However, they did get the primary characters spot on though, which is the important part.
@Xpon: NO! NO pdf! The books are still under copyright protection! If they want to read them they can go to the library or buy them!
The only book series I would allow to be stolen is Twilight... And that is only physical copies for the sole purpose of burning and keeping money out of Meyer's pocket!
