Half of it shows the father's story, and half shows Spiegelman interviewing his father and trying to deal with the strained relationship between the two of them, depicting the effects of the camps on the old man decades later. It's a powerful but sometimes disturbing graphic novel, which is only made creepier by the fact that Spiegelman draws everyone as animals; Poles as pigs, Americans as dogs, Jews as mice and Germans as cats.
