Kindly read/watch both adaptations before voting. As for FMA: Brotherhood, it's not finished yet, so just read the manga to know the story.
Option #1: It was the first anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist. It was the one with the movie and its story is already finished.
Spoiler:
- where Ed and Al went to Earth
- the half of the series follows the manga; the other half doesn't
- where sloth is a woman
- where pride is king bradley
- where selim is just a normal kid [not a homunculus]
anyways, here's the movie poster:
Option #2: It was the new anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist and it just started airing last month. It's also based on the manga.
Spoiler:
- where they went to briggs
- where scar killed winry's parents
- where Ed and AL went to Briggs
- Where Maria Ross was suspected to be Hughes' murderer
- with Lin Yao, Ran Fan, and Mei Chan

I prefer the first anime, because I love the soundtrack, the voice actors (especially Mustang), the style of drawing and animation. The plot is also very good, even though it's different from the plot of the manga.
I've watched the two first episodes of Brotherhood, and I don't like the style of drawing as much as the one in the first anime. It's good that it'll follow the plot of the manga more closely, but I still currently prefer the first anime. ...but this opinion may change as the Brotherhood series goes on.

I liked the soundtrack and style of the first anime as well. But then when they deviated from the manga it was like . I guess I like the manga better but I like the first anime more...I wonder if that makes sense?
I love Lust's VA in the first one @.@.
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

Yeah, your right. I love the first original anime of FMA. The drawings are so cool, I love them. Alphonse, (especially as a child) is so cute . Riza Hawkeye is pretty on FMA too.
The detective who leads the criminal to the corner and let him suicide eventually is not different from a murder. -Conan Edogawa

Yah. I agree on you.
I hate the BROTHERHOOD one.
The drawing makes me sick.
I also hate the BROTHERHOOD's voice actors.
