V29 Vermouth's catch phrase changed!

Post by Shinran »

Alright. For those who got volume twenty-nine in English, who here is pissed off about the fact that they changed Vermouth's awesome phrase, "A secret makes a woman woman" to "that touch of mystery gives a woman her allure"? Oh, and when Jodie quotes Vermouth, "the air of mystery makes a woman". Does anyone like this change? Y/N?

Well, they changed a lot already. But this is probably the worst.

I will not be surprised if they changed Kaitou Kid's motto...
That's why I hate stupid American translators and dubbers them.

That's one of the most utterly ridiculous things I've heard in a long time.

Wait. Kaitou Kid has a motto? And seriously, why would they even waste time to actually get their asses off to make a new motto? For crying out loud, it's very idiotic. And god, do the translators need lives.

What??? That doesn't even make sense!! The original line is in English anyway (OK, the grammar is a bit off, but that's easy enough to fix). Why go and change the whole thing to make it use more complicated words? And the pattern of the phrase becomes important in a later case ("uma uma" in one of the Eisuke cases causes Conan to realize that the little boy talked to Vermouth). Just put it in as "A secret makes a woman a woman." Or leave it as is. "A secret makes a woman, woman." OK, so the grammar's a bit funny, but not very many people actually pay attention to grammar....*grumbles on about Viz being dumb*
I have finally started to actually publish my story! For the moment, expect a new chapter each month.

The Case of the Midnight Channel
"When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though.
If Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery."

Short version: I'm taking various DC/MK characters to Inaba (where Persona 4 takes place) and dropping them through the TV to face their Shadows!

KID has a motto... too lazy to write it.

And really, the translators need a new life they suck.

Is it "a magician never uses the same trick twice"? If not, is it on the Kaitou Kid fansite? And like I said on Livejournal, I would bash Viz (I LIVE IN THE CITY WHERE THEY PUBLISH MANGA ORZ) but they're not worth it, really.

What's wrong with the original phrase? It's concise and more likely to be someone's catch phrase/motto than some complicated string of "big" words. It's not just about what it means literally, but also about its tone and how it sounds. The pause between woman woman gives the feeling of mystery plays into Vermouth's pretentious character.

"that touch of mystery gives a woman her allure" This a statement that contains only the meaning of the original but lacks its essence. Why do they need to change it when it's already in English!!!???
No clue can ever be too small to ignore.

No, that's from the 3 taboos.
It's "The stage is much like a warzone. You must read other's minds as if they were textbooks. The essence of the heart is the most prominent ingredient of success. Focus on your show and NEVER FORGET YOUR POKER FACE" (quote from ep 219 and it's my previous siggy)
Originally said by Toichi and later it became his motto. (said so in the MK manga)

And yeah, don't waste your time on Viz, they'll never learn.

Eventually, I bet they change Kaitou Kid's, "Ladies and Gentlemen!" to "Everybody, look over here!"
