A farmer actually decided that he didn't want to eat any of his apples, but sell them.  In the first year he sells four large apples and two small ones for $7.00.  If the two small apples together cost $0.50 less than one large apple, then how much did each type of apple cost?

I used the following two equations:

2s+4l=7
2s+0.5=l

After solving for both variables I got:

s=0.5
l=1.5
