The problem with that list is that you're building the house from the roof downwards.
Yes, Sherlock holmes was the main inspiration for Gosho but it wasn't the only thing he ever read.

The point of the thread was restricting it to sir ACD's canon.

Which can only fail. It's not as simply as that, the characters are influenced by several fictional detectives as once. Ai does have some character traits of Irene Adler, but she also has some character traits of Cordelia Gray. Conan isn't a mere facsimile of Holmes. Yusaku is probably influenced by other characters beside Mycroft.

Regarding Watson, we must first look at the progress of the story throughout the whole Sherlock Holmes fiction. Watson was at times praised by Holmes for being able to sum things up well, as well as stimulating Holmes' mind unknowingly.

"You sum up the difficulties of the situation succinctly and well."

"It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but you are a conductor of light. Some people without possessing genius have a remarkable power of stimulating it."

Also note the fact that Watson's deductive abilities improved over time, though it by no means reached Holmes' expectations. So rather only as a sidekick, we look for a character capable of stimulating the detective's mind, as well as one who's learning from the detective himself. Taking these few points, one character comes to mind : Mitsuhiko. (I don't know much about the Irregulars so I don't know whether there's a particularly bright member of it. If there is then never mind)

As for Adler herself, she's well known for her successful trick on Holmes, and she's the first to do so. The (female) character we know have done so is Haibara. Has Vermouth done so before? Though some people think of Holmes' interest on Adler is based on romance, I'd rather think it's based on admiration, as he did not expect a female to outwit him. Is there any smart girl somewhere that Kudou admires? Pardon me if this post is weird or anything. I don't have much experience in forums.

Possible too, but in that case more of a pun from Gosho. Most of the times then, (if Kogorou ever represent Watson) this sentence of Holmes' would work perfectly. Imagine Kudou saying this to Kogorou.

The role can be humorously reversed, too. Conan always tries to say things to make Kogorou figure things out. It's almost like that Sherlock comedy "Without a Clue". XD
