Btw, do you think it would be wiser to let the Mom's handle the baby when he/she crying ?

Also, I believe the "sooth with incentives" option refers to giving them a lollipop or something. Bad idea, btw!

Doesn't always work that way. Sometimes it does work to just give them a pacifier and let them calm themselves down, but most of the time? No.

And sometimes they really do just need some attention, and when they're too young to talk, the only way for them to communicate really is to cry.

I have a nine-year-old sister (who a lot of times, it felt like Commi and our older sister and I were raising rather than our dad and her mom) and I used to babysit before I got to where I can't stand being around most children for long periods of time. (Though, it may actually be the bad parents I can't stand, not the children.)

even if it does get them to stop, it's a bad idea because you're giving positive reinforcement to an undesired behavior. Sure, giving the kid a lollipop will make them stop crying, but if you do it more than once they'll start to piece together that if they cry, they get a lollipop.
