"Ran, Detective Mouri, I'm sorry for bringing you here so suddenly." Jodie said with a smile, leading her and her father to the room they were using for the time. There was a window in the room, but it was small and the blinds were down. The white covering the walls as with every other room in the hospital gave an eery glow to the already disturbing night.
Kogoro huffed and crossed his arms. "This had better be good, that Detective Freak calling us and having us picked up by the FBI like this!" He gave Jodie a suspicious look. "You had better not be doing anything against the law. This isn't your Country."
"Father!" Ran said, shocked before smiling to Jodie and bowing. "Thank you for bringing us here, Miss. Jodie!"
Jodie smiled nervously. "Oh, no! No problem, Ran!" She said in her Americanized Japanese.
"Anoh... Miss Jodie..." Ran started as Kogoro moved in to inspect the room grumpily. "Can I... ask... er..." Jodie was all ears by this point as Ran became a bit embarrassed. "Anoh... Shi-Shinichi. Is he here?" She suddenly became determined at the sound of his name. "Where's Shinichi? He called me down here, didn't he?"
Jodie blinked curiously, then smiled sweetly to Ran. "Ah. He's working with the police right now. It seems there was a few problems. Something about someone targeting Mr. Kogoro." She said before pocketing her hands. "He asked us to look after all of you until everything was settled."
"H-He's out there? But, didn't you just say it was dangerous!?" Ran went pale with worry before looking around. "And... what do you mean by 'all of us'?"
"All of us." A voice called out from the back of the room as the little strawberry brown haired girl walked out with behind the curtain. "Professor Agasa went to the bathroom. He will be back shortly." She explained to Jodie before crossing her arms. She hand something on her mind. Was Kudo alright? And when would he tell this girl he loved now that all of this was happening? On his death bed, or hers?
"H-Haibara! Wait... if you and the Professor are here, then... Conan? Where's Conan!?" Ran looked even worse as she walked out into the hall, look around for some kind of answer to her problem as if at any point she'd hear the tiny boy call out her name.
"H-He's safe!" Haibara said quickly as she stepped forward. Her eyes were wide for a moment before she lowered her head weakly. "He said... he told me to tell you he's alright. He's with a friend right now." She was lying through her teeth. Why was she saying all of this? Why did she think he had to say such things? Such words were empty, meaningless. Kudo was not safe. Out there, he was as good as dead!
Ran stared at Haibara for a long moment before smiling and walking up to her. Kneeling in front of Haibara, she smiled, petting her hair. "If you say he's alright, then I will trust you, Haibara." She said with a weary smile. She soon reached up, wiping a few tears from her eyes. "Thank you, Haibara."
"Conan..." Ayumi sniffed and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Aren't you supposed to be the brave one, Conan?"
Mitsuhiko rubbed the tears from his eyes, nodding. "Conan always knows what to do, no matter what the situation!"
Conan stared at the two of them for a long moment before nodding, his expression becoming more solid and brave. It was a fake spark of courage, but he had to do something. They were trapped, they would probably be surrounded soon if they stayed, and sniped if they left. "I've got a plan." He said quickly before grabbing the car radio. Using his bow tie voice changer, he fixed his voice to a very recognizable one. Few officers would listen to a child, but many would follow another. "Suspects have been spotted in the Haido Prefecture! At least one sniper and two on foot!" He cried out.
"Detective... Takagi...?" Ayumi sniffed, staring at Conan in awe. "Conan...?"
"It's something the Professor made for me years ago." Conan explained in a soft voice. He slipped into the bottom of the car with Ayumi and wrapped his arms around the shivering girl, Mitsuhiko mimicking the two of them by slipping down by the feet of the other seat. "There are police all over the streets, it shouldn't be long now..."
As planned, sirens could be heard in the distance. One of the cars happened to pass through the street they were on and stopped beside them. They called out for Takagi, thinking it was him that had spun out, but instead found the three of them, hiding. Another car over the radio reporting having seen Takagi's body, while another reported the body of a child and two adults by a burning building.
"... Yes." He said as his scope followed the kids, skipping past the blue suited one that climbed into the other car and aiming for the other two.
"Well, take the shot!" Chianti growled. "Lucky bastard."
Conan's eyes were stuck wide as he listened to Mitsuhiko's screams as he panicked, trying to escape and get to his fallen friend. Conan couldn't blame him. They way she just fell, it was unfair. She dd nothing. She was inocent. They were all innocent. All of these lives that were lost of over them. Conan slowly looked down at his shaking hands. All he could see was blood. Blood drenched these tiny hands, these foreign, stubby fingers that did not belong to him. He was no Edogawa Conan, ou should not have played Edogawa Conan; he should have died that night. If he had died, everyone wouldn't have died!
Tears were streaming from his eyes as he clenched his hands into fists. He couldn't... he wouldn't allow this to continue. He had to find them. He had to fight back!
"Uh... hey, kids..." The officer said to break the agonizing silence. "Who are you anyway? Why were you in that car?"
"M-Mitsuhiko..." The whimpering in the back aid as he hugged himself, trying to comfort himself after everything that had happened. He was seeping so peacefully, and right now he was wishing he had died in his sleep, happily, instead of woken up to this nightmare.
"And you, kid...?" The officer poked at Conan, giving him a weary smile.
"Edogawa-... no... Kudo..." He was through with lying. He was done with this game. He would fight back, not at a whimpering little kid, but at the Detective Genius he was. "Kudo Shinichi."
