If I understand correctly OneManga was just a place that a shit load of manga scans were hosted. It seems like other groups/people translated the scans and then uploaded them to the site.

I don't see why this should affect DCTP. DCTP will probably continue to translate new files regardless of what happens to OneManga. From what I know, DCTP only takes down files when they've been licensed in the US.

Though, I'm not a staff member, nor anyone that has been around long, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The note on OneManga simply states that publishers are taking a difference stance on scanlations. I have no idea what the stance is since I didn't bother to check though I think the logical assumption is "We don't like scanlations."

With that in mind, I'm wondering if DCTP will decide to respect that or if DCTP will continue to do the fabulous job they are doing now.

Of course, I'm sure you can guess which option I'm rooting for. :)

Yes, the first post said so also
baka1412 wrote: And now for the latest devastating event..

www.onemanga.com (also 1000Manga), one of the largest online manga reader sites, just got shutdown.

It was stated that they will remove all their manga scanlation contents regardless the licensing status.. Although they also said that they got some ideas, but until then...

Question which i believe already asked before by me..  Will Meitantei Conan scanlations keep on surviving in the future ?

I've always been an anime fan first and foremost, so it doesn't affect me a whole bunch - I've only read one manga from start to finish and that was DN, which was the english version from Viz Media because I prefer reading material in my hands..

But damnit, I wanted to read Monster manga and Hellsing manga sometime in the future..

well, good luck with that, right now, i only have time to catch up with DC and some reborn chapters :P but it seemed to be good enough so far, but without one manga... well... that's trouble some :P

I could pull out some of my private collections.. If i remember correctly, in this case i do, i have both in complete volumes..

Try to find whatever you can for those 2 and if you cannot find anymore volume in the future, I'll help by uploading the rest of the volumes you cannot find..

ME TOO! Bakuman is like, the only manga I ever read regularly. Tiemz to catch up on DC before it's all gone :'( .

I hope I make it in time for Fairy tail, One piece and Bleach too. And Dgrayman. Oh god. :( :( :( . I stopped reading them like, since last year. :'( .

Taking such a carefree approach doesn't really account for many distinct possibilities. If the publishers decide to go after individual series one at a time (and, as such, the scanlation groups themselves), it's highly likely that many series will lose whatever support they have in the community at large. Many times, people do not like to chance it when it comes to any sort of legal matters concerning this hobby. Google as you may at that point, you're unlikely to get much more than raws (if that).

For example, if there happened to be a big group that did the manga and anime of a series and they received a C&D related to one or the other, legally-speaking, they aren't likely to want to continue with either--especially if the C&D came from the Japanese parent company that still has ties to both mediums.

If the whole fansubbing & scanlating practice has to go "underground," I'm afraid a lot of series with already-limited English fanbases will have difficulty continuing at the pace they are accustomed to.
