Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
So, a lot of people like Kaitou Kid. Some of them even like him better than the main character of Detective Conan. What's your opinion?
I personally would love to see a Kaitou Kid show. The character is interesting and the supporting cast is already there. I remember reading the Manga and laughing for almost 10 minutes when Inspector Nakomori (easily my favorite supporting character) prevented Kid from stealing the crown by rising up and scaring the crap out of him. I also think that the normal Koruba Kaito is hilarious. It could work as a stand alone show, but it probably couldn't last nearly as long as DC. Probably under 100 episodes.
What's your take?

I chose no, he is better off a supporting charcter.
It wouldn't be cool to see Kaitou every week in a show unlike how we see him every blue moon in Detective Conan anime/manga. When he shows up that once in a blue moon it's always great to see and it leaves a mark on us but if they do that every week it wouldn't be cool to watch. Also I mean you would run dry of ideas, like I'm sure it would get boring watching Kaitou stealing something every week.

I'm with EpoxElypse on this one. Gosho is certainly amazing and all, but even he wouldn't be able to conjure something every week. And even if he did it may not be as brilliant as the 'once in a blue moon' episodes we get nowEpoxElypse wrote: When he shows up that once in a blue moon it's always great to see and it leaves a mark on us but if they do that every week it wouldn't be cool to watch. I'm pretty much satisfied with the manga alone, for now, and his haphazard appearances. Besides, when he does show up, he leaves us stumped. I like that effect. It would take away the magic in Kaitou if he appeared all the time and would make it less special, ne?
I'm thinking if it does ever make it as an anime it will be most likely one of the 13 episode super short ones. Maximum. Even the manga was hardly 3 volumes.

PS: I thougt the manga has four volumes and not three!

The thing which strikes every conan fan to watch kaitou kids episodes, is that there is going to be some fight between kaitou and conan . If not , people would'nt like him much, most of the time ,kaitou manages to escape... I feel he's better off as a supporting actor

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
I voted yes on the new show.
I think it would have to be very different from the layout of DC. We couldn't follow kid around and "see what he sees" like we do with Shinichi, but if handled the right way where we follow his normal life and the story telling is only omniscient when he isn't kid (otherwise the tricks would all be ruined). I don't know if you could sustain a show like this very long, but maybe for twelve episodes or so during a DC off season (I don't know anything about the show's schedule). This would come in handy especially if used just before Kid begins to play a larger role in the events of the show to make the story deeper with Kid's motivation to take certain actions. The audience hasn't really gotten a proper introduction to Kid in the anime. Little of his manga story is revealed in past DC episodes.

You have valid points but I still think the show would run dry since kid is one of those epic characters who just show up, like a legendary pokemon or something. hahax64_02 wrote: I voted yes on the new show.

hmm, i think i voted earlier for yes. but now i don't know. maybe not a long series like detective conan. maybe a mini series, to get that view of kaitou kid. but yeah, if it went too long it might not be as fun. it's the waiting that makes him so great.

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
Honestly I'm not sure how well a Kaitou Kid-centric anime series would work (Note: I've not read the KK manga so I don't know what awesome stuff goes on in it <.<). The reason he is so f-ing amazing in Conan is because he is such a great nemesis for Conan/Shinichi, in the sense that he is the only person in the series we've seen with an IQ that is probably greater than his
Without having Conan there to figure out what Kid is doing, everything would get boring after a while. I'm definitely not discouraging a KK special (or a multi-ep OVA, as someone said before), I'm just not sure that an entire series would be exciting enough to keep my interest.

Kaitou Kid is better is a supporting character because his random and infrequent appearances make him all the more mysterious and fascinating to watch.
Also, who doesn't love to watch the ongoing battle between our favorite thief and our favorite detective???
(Although a 2-3 ep Kaitou Kid OVA would be awesome!)

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
he works well as a supporting character but i think he could probably pull off his own show, the manga series worked out well in my opinion so why not? it would be interesting having almost two parallel shows running along the same time frame where occasionally there were crossovers and you got to see the situation from different points of view, both conan's and kid's. in my opinion the idea could work if done well, but it could easily turn out to be a disaster, it depends on how it's done.

there's a good point there though (and an even better analogy, articuno was the best!). having his own show would make him loose a bit of his mysterious quality. done well like the manga however, i think though you may loose a bit of the character's facade you gain a lot more in terms of background and personality which makes him seem that much more real.EpoxElypse wrote: You have valid points but I still think the show would run dry since kid is one of those epic characters who just show up, like a legendary pokemon or something. haha

I personally want to know what they could come up with if they do a Kaitou series you guys are saying it would be good but I can't see that happening I mean... What would be the main basis of the show? Him stealing stuff?

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
I think people look forward to seeing how many other antics Gosho can think up for Kid to stump the Police and Conan (maybe). I admit, I always look forward to Kaitou Kid episodes simply because they are so appealing and exciting. I loved the recent one in the manga, even. (though I think a lot of people would've)EpoxElypse wrote: I personally want to know what they could come up with if they do a Kaitou series you guys are saying it would be good but I can't see that happening I mean... The only reason it wouldn't work that no matter how great Gosho is, even he couldn't possibly have enough ideas to run a good Kaitou show without rerunning some ideas and plots

Also, the basis of Kaitou stealing stuff is to both find the people who killed his father to take revenge, and for him to find 'Pandora' (is that right? it's been a while for me...) the jewel that those people were after. Something to do with immortality (which is what leads people to believe the people after Pandora are the BO, i guess) I don't entirely remember. But Kaitou has a complete story behind him so it wouldn't be hard for the plot line to make it as an Anime. Only problem is that it wouldn't run for long because the excitement would be lost if he was on everyday.
After all, it's his on and off appearances that make the episodes spicy and enjoyable, ne?

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
There are some excellent points in this thread on all sides.
Having read the manga, I wouldn't mind a (short?) series that deals with the Why's (why does Kaitou Kid steal things? It really hasn't been addressed in DC, and while I know the truth due to reading the manga, not everyone reads manga) and How's of Kaitou Kid. A person who hasn't come across the MK manga or anything MK related outside of DC thinks "Oh, he's Kaitou Kid, he steals stuf and makes a fool out of the police and DC always thwarts him", not "Oh, he's Kaitou Kid, he steals stuff because he's looking for a particular gem so that it doesn't fall in the wrong hands and he always returns what he steals".
Maybe a few OVA's only would indeed do the trick. Or a 13 to 26-episode anime. There's NO chance of a MK anime lasting even 1/4th as long as DC, however.
And, quite frankly, I'd love to see an animated version of the story arc in which Nakamori suspects Kaito of being Kaitou Kid (the ending of that, showing a not-so-suave Kaitou Kid, is PRICELESS) as well as more about Hakuba and his suspicions of Kaito.

Re: Kaitou Kid Anime Series or Not?
I could see an extended length OVA for explaining Kaitou Kid's origins, or maybe a short series like Tales of Symphonia had (4 episodes, direct to DVD release). There are very few cases/arcs/chapters in his manga that would make for good episodes. There are enough for a 12 episode series or so, but that's about it.
