Mario2000 wrote:Have been thinking recently: why do foreign characters in English speaking movies and games talk in bad English even when they are alone, instead of their own language with subtitles? For example, in the game "Law and order 3: justice is served" I finished yesterday, there was this funny scene of Ukrainian husband and wife talking in broken English while discussing their family matters (the player has to reconstruct the broken tape). The only slavic word they used in the whole conversation was ""niet" (no) ???
Because the producers or script writers or whoever decides that sort of stuff find it easier and also think that the audience would maintain their suspension of disbelief. I would honestly prefer if they did speak in their own language when alone, but it's a rare occurance.

Only in a psychology-based class can you completely draw a blank on what you read in the chapter because of the very concepts in said chapter. XD

So I accidentally ended up in some discussion where men keep saying feminism is stupid and this guy just posted the most stupid thing ever.
feminists believe they should be able to take off 3 months of the year and still earn the same as her counterpart who works the whole year?? no just no.

So, let me get this straight.... Basically you're saying men don't need vacation..? Not only that, but you say that in the time women work they shouldn't receive the same payment per hour a man gets?
I don't see your logic... Please enlighten me.
Is it perhaps that you assume women want to get paid more for working less? Is that it? I still don't get where you got that idea.

Now, now, don't derail these poor, put-upon men's arguments with such things as "facts" and "statistics" and "basic logic". It's simply too much for them to handle. Try giving them a rusk to gnaw on and ten minutes in the time-out corner.

*snorts*

Someone literally tried to complain to me about the fact their career field offers orientations or something for women to try and bring more females in to that particular field. "But they don't offer the same thing for men!" I'm not entirely sure why a male-dominated field would need to bring in male interest...

You would think men would be happy to work with more women... then they have something to ogle. ::)

Stuff like this is probably why I'm usually more interested in having female friends, just because I get annoyed by my own gender sometimes. :/

I would maybe at least understand if they complained about feminists, but if you complain about feminism as a whole, you are a hyping idiot. Plain and simple.

I'm becoming uncomfortable with slashes... I mean these: //////////
The reason? Whenever I see them with characters' names, there's a few possibilities. They are either grouping people together or giving alternatives(quite rare), being a pairing(mostly) or ... I dunno. But most of the time when I see them, I instantly think about a pairing even when the context would show that it's obviously not the case. And then I get uneasy churns in my stomach about weird pairings...

@ Yuri, that man is probably talking about maternity leave, which is 3 months in some countries. I hope he doesn't mean that because this makes his statement worse, like women has to get punished for having a family :|

I do think new fathers should be offered paternity leave like new mothers are offered maternity leave, so the parents can decide between them who stays home with the kid, but you can't deny that maternity leave is extremely important because pregnancy takes a huge physical toll on a new mother, and if you don't want to use baby formula then the baby is physically dependent on the mother. Besides, Yuri's right that women shouldn't be punished for deciding to have a family, but there are also women who want to go back to work and men who want to stay home with the kids, and offering paternity leave would allow and encourage men to do that. Dads are often stigmatized if they choose to stay at home instead of working and women are often stigmatized for working instead of staying at home, and that needs to be leveled out.

But not because some MRA thinks a woman doesn't "deserve" maternity leave.

In France, if I recall correctly, they are now forcing fathers to take a paternity leave too, so that the woman isn't the only one to look after the child.

Why can I never recognize Lena Headey in things? I've been watching St Trinian's for years and I only just noticed that she played the English teacher yesterday. Then today I watched all the way through Imagine Me And You without recognizing her until a friend of mine who loves the movie pointed it out to me. The woman glitches my facial recognition software something fierce.

The new Lupin the Third live-action movie is totally fantastic, for anyone wondering. If you see it available in your country, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's really, really, really surprisingly great. The locations, the costumes, the dialogue, the plot--it's all very suitably Lupin and way, way better than you'd ever expect. The filmmakers had a tremendously difficult job ahead of them when trying to adapt this, but they did a great job. Also, 40% of the movie is in English, which is both unexpected and very nice at the same time.

In short: Oguri Shun is Lupin in this movie. Whether you have any prior knowledge of Lupin or not, I think this is a nice action movie that everyone can enjoy. But, if you do know Lupin well, you'll get even more mileage of it.
