Been going through some old papers and this question came to mind.

"Records" = bills, pay statements, bank/credit card statements, etc.

Obviously records like birth certificates and diplomas one would hope to keep forever.

I just toss em, though when I get a more permanent settlement I might start filing things.

I recently started filing things. I have a lot, but I know I've throw stuff away as well. My answer: other.

I would go with 2 years unless it's something that I would need to keep.

since certain someone does not care about the paper work and it is my responsibility on the top of the usual things, I just put them one side without organising. I used to do that when I was more free. I am planning though in the summer to get a shredder and a nice storage cupboard, I will only get rid of things wont be needed and the very old bank statements and bills

I keep some of my test papers from school, if that counts. I would usually keep them all together but after that, I tend to forget where I kept them (^.^").

I keep the important bills ("expensive stuff") forever.
Other bills, like grocery bills etc. 1 year?

I throw them around somewhere, and a couple of month/year later, I find it under my bed of shoced in a book and say to myself 'so this is where it went'. (Unless it's important, like report cards.)
