And simply speaking stealing bandwidth means you're stealing the websites "space".  Once the website gets too "big" the artist will need to pay for it, some people will simply take down their site.  If the website owner gets annoyed enough with people hotlinking (like me) they can also use some codes to change the picture into something inappropriate just to...educate the hotlinker (I'm sorry, I'm very mean).

So it's best if you save the picture, upload it to your own image storage place (imageshack, photobucket, etc).
