Re: Detective Conan Files 812-814 *SPOILER FREE* Discussion

Why do people keep suggesting, or flat out saying, that this case shows Okiya as having better deduction skills than Conan/Shinichi. Okiya was only able to deduce this after hearing Sonoko's ninja comment, and then he passed the same thing on to Conan.

While Okiya may have deduced it before Conan, he heard the ninja hint before Conan as well.

Edit: Just trying to say I believe Okiya and Conan have very similar levels of deduction and that I don't believe this chapter proved any different

Have anyone considered that Okiya might be Conan's dad, Yuusaku?
- He lives quite comfortably in Kudou's house
- If he really hides a voice changer in his neck (I agree with this theory), it's highly plausible that Agasa made it for him, hence they are close friends
- Yukiko would have a reason to be living in the house, as many of you suggested. She helps Yuusaku with the disguise, and more importantly, she's his wife lol
- And most important, only Yuusaku can be superior than Conan. It also explains why he suggested the solution but not solved it himself

I posted an idea about Yusaku disguising himself as Okiya just for a day or two/this file, in order to trick Sera and Haibara here:  http://forum.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?t=8160.195

But everyone is bringing up some very good points about why that probably isn't true.

This arc is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy

@Chekhov: I haven't been able to mention this yet due to technical issues, but I didn't say I think you did rip the solution straight from the Chinese version of 814 or whatever (I know you're clever enough to figure this out on your own), it's just that the way you worded solution made it sound more like a matter-of-fact, this is ABSOLUTELY 100% the solution and not so much like your own deduction. :P Just saying, I wasn't accusing you of anything.

I don't get why people are so defensive over Okiya vs Conan and "omg someone beat Conan to the punch." I kinda like it when that happens. It shows that Conan isn't some kind of perfect deduction god. That's kind of unrealistic and really annoying and just plain ridiculous.

Anyway, case was good. Nice break from normal stuff. The story part of the files is very interesting. My first theory regarding Sera's words at the end will be posted later when I'm not on my phone.

It's like Ayumi beat Genta at eating unagi or Conan beat Ran at Karate. It's never happened before, and suppose to be a plot point, just like when Okiya suddenly using his right hand. It's not like I want Conan to be perfect or anything. He often a step behind his father.

It's not really like Conan vs Ran karate because Karate isn't Conan's specialty, unlike the situations with Okiya/Sera/Heiji because deductions are their specialty. And it's not like with Kogoro who is mostly always wrong, either. It's just more realistic if Conan isn't the omg best detective evar and everyone else is second-best, especially Akai/Okiya who is older than Conan and been doing this stuff longer. :-\

I'd like to point out to those that are annoyed that Okiya figured out the case before Shinichi that everyone has a better at what they do. Even Sherlock Holmes himself. His brother Mycroft was better at deductions that him but he was also lazy and had no interest in being a detective. Also this isn't the first time Shinichi has been "beaten". His father has done it to him several times. It's just proof that even Shinichi is human, just like his idol Sherlock.

I agree with this completely. It was exactly what I was thinking. I don't think this case proved that Okiya has greater deduction abilities. He just got a "hint" sooner. I think they are still pretty much the same.

Gosho won't let Conan get shown up without some sort of obvious asterisk when it comes to potential rivals. If Conan gets outsmarted by someone like Okiya hands down, no questions asked, and has to face his bested pride like that, Conan as a character is suddenly not that "impressive" in the framework of the series because there's obviously someone around that has proven they're better than the master detective (even though I've wanted this to happen for ages). The only time Gosho lets this happen unhindered is with the zen figure of Yuusaku, but because it's his father, there's nothing unexpected or threatening about it.

As was predicted very, very early during the East vs. West case (even from when the spoiler saying pretty much just "Conan vs. Hattori" came out): Gosho will not let Conan be beat outright, because for that, Conan would have to be wrong, and Conan is virtually never made to be "wrong" (and when he is, it's almost always simply because "it's understandable").

In other words, you can always bet on Conan. Cause, it's his show.
