So, Aoyama has her do dodgy things like break into cell phones and ask for petty personal favors from people who just lost relatives, has her think to herself that stuff is dodgy but does them anyway, and he's portraying her as "perfect"? He has her leave poisonous plants lying in a place a cat can easily access so she can dash off and assault veterinarians for daring to look like they might be dating her mother and he's intending her to be "perfect"? She's an impulsive hotheaded teenager, not "perfect" at all, and I don't see how Aoyama intends otherwise. She rarely cares about the Shinichi they found memoryless and pinning at how he isn´t the Shinichi she knows.
I don´t get what´s supposed to be the extreme selflessness about that act.
Anyway, in Shiragami, Ran was willing trade her soul for Shin'ichi's before she fell off the cliff. Basically a more abstract version of the cliffhanger Aoyama did for Kazuha/Heiji in Mermaid (which I learned recently was something he did for Sayaka/Yaiba, too). Though, rather than make Ran look noble and self-sacrificing, it made her look totally desperately crazy. Still, there was a large element of self-sacrifice involved, even if she herself thought the underlying desire that drove her into the forest was selfish.
She knows he's in some sort of trouble. She was already willing to accept him playing Conan rather than try to force a confession again, thinking he was in hiding. She still thought he might have a good reason to play Conan after the cell phone incident. Just before they met Okiya, Sonoko asked why Ran still wants to help a guy who barely calls her. Shin'ichi's own impulsive hotheadedness and his desire to keep her from worrying hasn't made it "easy" for her to figure out just how much trouble he's in, either. He's never told her that she should keep his continued contact with her discreet. When he got the temp cure he even tried resume his old life and go back to school (which obviously should confuse her idea that he's in hiding). Even the reason he gave for her to avoid talking too much about him with Okiya was merely to protect the privacy of his belongings. I think she does pretty good job trying to see things from his perspective* despite his incongruous behavior and deceit.
* So she gets flack from a lot of Haibara fans for turning into a passive doormat content to wait... I'd only put her as a doormat if she learns about him repeatedly assaulting her father to use as a puppet and Gin targeting them anyway despite the lies and just acts oblivious to it or is immediately forgiving.
