Case Number III

Post by ayw »

From behind a tree in the garden of an abandoned manor, Conan is eavesdropping with his listening device on a meeting between a representative of the White Organization, one of the Red Organization, and one of the Black Organization, known to each other only as Mr White, Mr Red, and Mr Black, respectively. Through a small gap in the curtains, Conan can only see that one person is wearing a red necktie. From a previous case, Conan also knows the identity and therefore the voice of Mr White, but he cannot see him.
"Remarkable", one of the three says - the transmission is bad and Conan cannot not determine which - "one of us is wearing a white necktie, another a red necktie, and the third a black necktie." Now Conan uses the zoom in his glasses and sees the person with the red necktie saying "Yet no-one is wearing the necktie that matches his name". "You're right", echoes the voice of Mr White.
At that moment Conan is chloroformed and locked into a cellar. But before he faints, he thinks to himself: "Good, I know by the colour of the necktie which one of them is Mr Black, the representative from the Black Organization!"

Who was wearing what-coloured necktie, and which one is Mr Black?

Easy one :D
Spoiler:
...red necktie saying "Yet no-one is wearing the necktie that matches his name". "You're right", echoes the voice of Mr White.
red necktie can't be Mr. Red and since Mr. White wouldn't reply to himself this has to be Mr.Black.
This leaves the black necktie for Mr.White and the white one for Mr.Red

Actually, I thought I figured it out from reading halfway into the second paragraph.

Depending on how you interpret the last sentence of the above paragraph, Conan also knows Mr White by sight. Since Mr Red is not wearing the red necktie and Mr White is not seen, The remaining person would be Mr. Black. That's my interpretation of the riddle before I finish reading the dialogue part. ;)

Haha, yeah, that's sort of a valid interpretation, but the deduction is still incomplete. Ok, assume Conan doesn't know Mr White by sight (only his voice), and assume Conan cannot see Mr Red's face clearly, just his lips moving. So, when he gets the chance (future Case), Conan has to rely on the colour of the neck tie to decide which guy to take down. What is the colour of the neck tie Mr Black is wearing?
