That's a nice way to look at it, but I believe what actually happened there was that she never let go even while unconscious. So he had no choice but to try the sweater ruse.

Sure, in reality, but what was being conveyed there was that her determination not to let him go allowed her to keep her grip even when asleep. Gosho loves little things like that.

Just as a side note, she had actually been tranquilized so a light touch is unlikely to have woken her up.

Yeah, light sleepers might but from the way the show goes, it doesn't look like a lot of people are light sleepers...

What exactly happened in 523? "What She Really Wants to Ask" I don't have time to rewatch it right now..
And I personally don't want Ran to know about Conan being Shinichi (Just Saying) It would be awkward.

Not much really, Shinichi and Heiji solves a murderer in 10 minutes, menwhile Ran says to Shinichi that what she asked him before wasn't what she really wanted to ask him and when she was about to ask him he said that what she wanted to ask him was the same thing he wanted to ask her and told her to wait for him to solve the murderer and then they'll talk but then he start changing into Conan again so she grabs his hand and promisse to never let him go again (This thanks to Kazuha's advice) and then she gets hit by one of the Tranquilizer darts from Conan's watch by Ai and then she wakes up in Agasa's car holdin Conan's arm and she didn't notice that Conan wasn't wearing his sweater the way it is supposed to be used so she didn't realize that Conan = Shinichi
