SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today.
http://money.cnn.com/2012/01/20/technology/SOPA_PIPA_postponed/

Though that is good news... It's just the feeling the battle is over, but the war isn't.  The people that made and supported these bills are still in office.  You can't help but think, they're going to keep pushing on these bills until they pass, whether it's in another form or through some mutation of another bill that slips through without anyone looking.  Not sure how we can just go and get rid of the root of it all...

I heard that the file-sharing sites like Megaupload weren't even covered by these bills (which explains how it was shut down w/o either one). So if they can still shut down the sites, then the world is in serious trouble.
Knowing the truth and knowing what to do with the truth are two completely separate ideas. Learn to distinguish them. OR ELSE.

Okay... for some reason I keep reading SOPA as SOAP. One letter out of place! XD
Definition of AyuCon:
An underrated couple overthrown by a mass of overrated couples in a world of fangirls/boys who like stoic characters and Mary-Sues.

"Please be okay... Ayumi!" -Conan
Definition of MitsuAi:
Best thing ever- better than ice tea on a hot day or ice cream cake at a B-Day party.

"(to Mitsuhiko) At this moment, you are my outstanding rescuer. Thanks for your help." -Haibara

Time for another bad pun(?)

The few people who support Sopa need a soapbox to be heard.

They'll probably try to get it through when the people are distracted by some other event (probably a disaster or something)... like always :|

my favorite part about that bill is what a congresswoman proposed changing the name to

Rep. Zoe Lofgren brilliantly pushed a proposal (seriously) to rename the bill the: "Keep Every American's Digital Data for Submission to the Federal Government Without a Warrant Act of 2011."

and yeah, it's a really bad bill, but sadly not many people are going to want to speak up against the "Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011", which is probably why it's named that in the first place.

Our internet shall be like airports. Also, I find it incredibly sleazy to use child porn as a front for IP protection.

Yeah, Child Pornography is horrendous, but it's been dealt with in quite a few manners before.

How old is this Lamar Smith anyway? He probably doesn't understand the Internet at all. I can see how he could have good intentions like "Oh, doi, that Child Pornography stuff is horrible! I should do something to stop it!" but I can also see him trying to do a Google search and have it take him 5 minutes because he can't type  :|

I don't see a separate topic for the megaupload thing, but I have used megaupload exactly twice to upload or download annything, both legally. One instance was used to distribute a legally allowed copy of an antivirus program to me per company policy (there was no formal distribution network). The second was to upload an extremely large research data set because there was an email attachment size limit and megaupload was convenient. I know some other lab members used it for sharing datasets too. I sure hope someone raises a stink about legitimate use, even if it was in the minority (or it could be the majority. I dunno).
