Besides, I suspect there's a certain critical mass of weirdness that one forum can sustain, I feel that we shouldn't go barreling towards it as quickly as possible.

I disagree. I've been there and that CMW is an amazing place.  As long as you have your membership card with you, you can leave at anytime, too, so new members can be welcomed with at least a degree of normalcy.
