From England, and, yeah, while our language is similar to German, it's also got a quite a few other roots as well as Germanic which mean its grammar and pronunciations are slightly confusing sometimes  (yes, I get confused by my own language from time to time )

I am Russian, though I live in Italy for 12 years. I am studying English and German and now I am trying to learn a little Japanese as well, so I can understand at least games and anime, where the language is not particularly complicated, as I heard.

As for the initial question, I backpacked through Germany several years ago, and it was great.  Berlin was really neat to see, and it's a beautiful city.  Got to go to Oktoberfest, and to Munich, as well as see a little bit of the Rhine.  I don't know much German, but I do like 99 Luftballons. 

As for me, I'm from Canada.  There are many similarities, but also many differences between Canada and the U.S.  Of course, we have a bit of an identity complex, so we usually like to focus on the differences more than the similarities.
