I preferred the old one as well, but it's not a huge difference

although without that colorful little bar at the top it sort of seems overly gray.

I agree, it looks grayish, for me it's screaming "We're boring!", plus, I love the characters buttons which "used" to brightened the Gray

and also how you can see the newest post under the forum name right away (but this is small matter)

They changed the layout for everyone to a "Red Panda Translation Project" one for April's Fool, and after that you could choose if you wanted to use the regular one (well, there even were two versions back then, black and white), or the panda one.
But now it's gone.
