It's usually pronounced as wa when it's the particle は, which is an adverbial particle and is used to announce the topic/subject of the sentence.

I know about that much but it makes less sense than Portuguese and I think that's weird :V

Oooh, the flashcards are great. I can help with the 'japanese for busy people' vocabs once I get my book back (in two weeks or so).

Personally I like this one for vocabulary learning: memrise.com (I'm Giogina on there). We can have Kanji learning contests there ^^

Sure, why not :P
I have my japanese for busy people book lying around somewhere. I should start using it again once I'm through Megumi-senpai's lessons.

Pimsleur's Learn Basic Japanese audio lessons really helped me, and they're really good for begginers.
Some may find them boring, but certainly helpful.

Also, word termination is really important (inflection). The way one word ends can change the overall meaning of the phrase.

日本語が難しいそうにみえますけど、それはあなたの自国語と日本語のちがうところのせいからです。勉強しませばあなたも上手になれます。

Although my use of も is arguably incorrect considering how long it took me to write this.

こんにちは!!It's been a while since I looked at this topic, but I've actually added Kanji to our flashcard account (reading and meaning), and I'm planning to attempt keeping this topic more active this time.
I found out a way to add a japanese keyboard to my laptop, so in case anyone is interested I can help figuring that out.
