They're both apparently left-handed. Haibara told Conan to note Gin was left handed at the end of Genta's Disaster (vol30.8-9/ep242), as if Gin's clothing and hair didn't make him conspicuous enough. James noted Shuuichi had cut his hair short recently. Yeah, Aoyama wanted people to jump to that conclusion, like Jodie==Vermouth. I really doubt it was a retcon instead of a planned-out false lead, though.
