I don't think it's related to coffee. I feel they didn't expect coffee to be spilled, and Ayumi is there they have to use another plan. They were outside and didn't think much about coffee, but when they noticed it scuffle has happen until they had Ayumi wrap in rug.

It seems a bit implausible that they would try to frame Agasa by switching rugs. It seems awful risky to break into a house, an event which could be reported to the police with credibility since Ayumi was kidnapped and the professor tazed. There would be a lot of suspicion around the rug if it were to implicate Agasa in a crime since it did disappear with the kidnappers. It would be obvious to the police given the testimony of the children and Ayumi and the obvious signs of a struggle that the evidence should implicate the kidnappers instead.

What's possible is that Agasa's rug contracted some evidence of another, more serious crime from one of the three parties while they were appraising the vase. The burglars, realizing that perhaps there was some trace on their shoes they left on the rug decided to steal it and replace it with a new rug. They then pretend to be looking for a cat to avoid Agasa and the others from reporting it to the police or suspecting their intentions. They then return Ayumi with a replacement rug, hoping at worst to be caught for kidnapping rather than a murder the rug could implicate them in. It's possible the culprits were using the vase appraisal as an alibi after commiting another crime and left evidence by accident.

It seems reasonable to believe the rugs have been switched since there are no stains on the rug and Ayumi had coffee on her when she was wrapped in it. Given the amount of time she was gone and the preoccupations of the kidnappers, it seems unlikely that they would go to the trouble of cleaning the rug. They let her out of the rug once to get water so they could make the switch without her realizing it, so she would testify to being in that same rug the whole time.

Also , it's probably just to a set up for later that Okiya and Sera were in the same chapter, since now Okiya has seen her and she knows he lives in Kudo's house

But yeah, I'd be creeped out if a stranger started asking me questions about a 7 year old girl's daily routine. Yet not only did Agasa not find it suspicious in the least, he even forgot who asked. He really dropped the ball on that one.

Hey now, to be fair he has to worry about a deadly, secret organization that wants her and everyone she knows dead.  What's a little child-stalking compared to that?  After all, said organization wouldn't care about her daily routine, her friends, and where she might be at any given time.

I know this was a while back, but I couldn't help myself when something came to me xD
