omfg...
my first impression was... that stupid agasa... if i was him i wouldn't dare to talk about ai with anyone whom i shortly met... lecturing conan about secrecy and yet blurting out things like a waterfall to strangers... (well we don't know how much he told them but he seems as if he told them at least some info)

and the with the last panel the target really seems to be the rug... but for why its not coffee stained... i would say the ayumis hood was stained(not soaked, but most probably) and therefore the rug only had minor contact with coffee, i'm not sure but i think it is a whole lot harder to stain something with something stained(and soaked to), at least to a visuable degree, maybe all of the coffe was poured one the inside of the hood and stained the outside only slightly...

i wanted to write something else but my stomach wants food for some time now... so no chance i can recall now

Wow, that was a twist. Didn't foresee anything to do with the whole cat story, ever. Maybe the whole case is just a red-herring already, since there are so many throughout this one case.

The culprits switching the rug seems obvious, due to the aforementioned reasons, and is still pretty confusing. If it's worth a value, then why the culprits planned it out so there was a possibility of staining the rug is beyond me. Though, it could also mean that maybe they're not after the rug for money. Maybe they need that specific rug for something else that I can't think of at the moment. I suppose the vase has been used properly for its purpose this case, but I can't help but think Gosho will bring something else about the vase back in next case. Hmm...incoherent rambling.

As for the person asking about Haibara, I'll also put in my 10 cents that it's Sera. It would only expedite one of the points in that other big spoiler that was recently released about Sera and Ai.

Culprit wise, out of the three pairs, I'm going to have to go with the middle-aged couple as well. The jerks seem most likely, but they are too obvious, and I don't think it's the two sisters. But it's just a thought floating around.

I also hope even if this case isn't BO, it will lead into new character development with Sera or others, or start heading toward the climax of the Bourbon arc, especially since even he is in this case. This case has the potential to set everything up!

Oh, another reason why I feel it's the middle-aged couple is because of how they treated Ayumi.  They seemed very concerned for her welfare, to an extent, and I could see an older couple acting in that fashion towards a child as opposed to the jerk father and son or someone who's particularly young (sisters), if that makes any sense.  Just my take on it.

I'm still curious as to why Sera wants to know so much about Ai (to me, it's obvious she saw the video and the reflection because when she was talking about Ai, the vision in the background was of Ai in the video).  I'm also curious about Okiya.  Why did he bug the place?  I'm leaning more and more towards Okiya really being Scar Akai and trying to keep an eye out for Ai (since he knows that it's Akemi's sister somehow).

A point might be made as to where Okiya's bug is, or how good his equipment is.  He seems to be listening intently to a whispered conversation that Genta and Mitsuhiko (~2 ft away) can't hear clearly.  Maybe it's in the laptop?  Would make sense, and it could bootstrap into the laptop's wireless.  After all, most laptops have a microphone, and a wireless connection, so it would not be weird activity.  I guess.

The case is going...

It seems like the target is the rug but maybe it's again some kind of bluff. The cat hunting left Agasa's house empty so maybe the culprits aim was something really else (some new invention lol) and the whole kidnapping-rug-changing-cat-hunting -case was the cover. Very big and stupid cover yes, but this is just free thinking. The same thing like kidnap a girl because of the missing cat.

I think the middle-aged couple is the most suspicious: they are described as experts but they don't even care to to examine the bottom of the vase, maybe looking for some mark left by the builder?

I thought the same. It was more like they were looking at the rug.

And Okiya does nothing except looks secretive. >:(

About the criminals don't minding staining the rug it could be they didn't want the rug because it was valuable in itself or as sth to sell but that it was proof of a crime or it had diamonds or drugs inside of it... you get my drift. I don't have a real standing in this case because it's full of red-herringsw as someone alreeady commented

But yeah, I'd be creeped out if a stranger started asking me questions about a 7 year old girl's daily routine. Yet not only did Agasa not find it suspicious in the least, he even forgot who asked. He really dropped the ball on that one.

Hey now, to be fair he has to worry about a deadly, secret organization that wants her and everyone she knows dead.  What's a little child-stalking compared to that?  After all, said organization wouldn't care about her daily routine, her friends, and where she might be at any given time.

Well, considering Agasa forgot who it was would mean that it wasn't a suspicious person asking it. So it couldn't have been those unfriendly father/son duo. Otherwise Agasa would have remembered I guess.
Could also have been sera that way. Agasa wouldn't suspect a high school girl I guess.
Agasa also wouldn't find it suspicious if the other two pair would causally ask it.
