She could have been asked by her son to make over Shuu??? And also she was an actress, she might known about a trick to fake the death to make it really real. Yeah, Aoyama Gosho is a great mangaka, we dont know until we see it with our very own eyes, so many possibilities. The only thing bother me about is I think that Vermouth knows about Kir is a CIA's spy, and also because Vermouth is a master of disguise ... ( 
ahhhhh, I can't say it, it's just a random theory, unexpected theory ^^), the only thing I know is that Vermouth is an actress, she maybe know about all tricks to fake the death so she tought about it and want to confirm it by looking at FBI's reaction when they saw Akai is still alive,,, ahhhh not to mention maybe scarred Shuu is Bourbon ....

i always thought he was 26/27(a bit older than Akemi)...but i don't know if it was mentionned... btw,okiya is 27,so if okiya=akai, Akai is 27...

I don't think he's dead. The shot "through" the head was silhouetted and his head shaded so we never actually saw the wound, and the burning body's face was hidden. There's too much pointing to it being a setup designed to elaborately fake his death, not least that fact that his identity was verified through a set of prints that Akai and Conan had made a rather obvious show of planting on his cellphone...
Don't forget Aoyama-sensei's love of mystery trivia either. Reiha Falls? Like anybody'll ACTUALLY die there except Moriarty.
