Hi there! This is Aoyama, it’s a little sudden, but I am going to announce my “favorite chapter in my 30-year career”
Since my debut in 1986, I cannot possibly remember the numbers of chapters I’ve drawn, however, when it was asked “the number one chapter,” I can answer it without any hesitation. There’s no other option, the one and only great chapter that need to exist in this world! That is!!!.... the hint is “hospital.”
[the next page reveals: Shinichi Boy(part one, 923), and the book shows rough draft of the chapter and Aoyama sensei’s page by page notes/comments]

(TN: Shinichi boy was drawn while Aoyama was hospitalized in 2015, in SDB 90+ he also mentioned he created the chapter with the feeling that “this great chapter needs to exist in the world”)

---------

Additional info from @oooHYYo (no scan provided), translation by Jiamin:

1. Aoyama sensei’s favorite movie: last year’s was good, so does movie 1 & movie 4
2. The Higo charm case, when Conan received Ran’s text, he’s probably thinking “I wanna reply ASAP! But I can’t” or something like that
3. Favorite chapter “Shinichi Boy” when Ran said “don’t call me crybaby” Shinichi’s thinking”why is she mad, she seems so cute/sweet”

Additional info about the Panel of Shinichi and Ran's first meeting:

Aoyama: this is the panel I worked really hard on! The moment they met, which is a significant moment, but I just couldn’t get it right, I altered so many drafts for this scene

Aoyama: Ran was pleased to hear Shinichi’s “Thank you”, so she responded with a huge smile “There you go!” But we couldn’t see the smile, it didn’t show in “Ran Girl” either. The smile was revealed at the end of “Shinichi Boy(part 2)”, the kind of smile which moved Shinichi, and fell in love with Ran.

Q: Congratulations on the 30th anniversary for your career, is there a year that was most memorable to you?
A: it was the year that the production of first Conan movie was decided. Before that, I feel troubled on writing Conan, and thought it was probably time to end it. I had to come out of new ways to kill people every week, it was extremely difficult for me. And the editorial department went out of their ways to meddle in my creation, I hated that. So I decided to go to Las Vegas with my assistants, splurged all the moneys that I have earned at that time, and decided to end Conan when I come back home. But then I received a phone call in my hotel in Vegas, “The making of Conan movie was confirmed!” I changed my mind after that, maybe I shouldn’t give up, I need to work harder when I come beck.

Q: Conan was really popular since the beginning, and the editors still wanted to intervene?
A: Yes, for example, they wanted Heiji’s personality to be more vile, I thought “to hell with them” and ignored their suggestion.
(TN: that was Chinese translation, didn’t see that part in the original text, it’s either covered or they might’ve added it to sound more dramatic)

You should add that the death count is up to Volume 93 as well.

Once Jimmy gets his copy we'll double check those paragraphs just in case.

Hey, just a thing I noticed. According to this translation (I know it might be inaccurate) just before he received Movie 01 news, Gosho decided to end DC manga. That probably means he had already introduced the boss of BO then.
Movie 01 (The Time-Bombed Skyscraper) was released on April 19, 1997. The closest one to this date - Volume 14 which contained files 131-140 - was released on March 18, 1997. However, we know that this decision was made before Aoyama even knew whether the movie would be made. I don't know for how long were movies made back then, but now the animated ones take at least a year? I think so. I would say that the process could be longer earlier, because the technology wasn't as advanced as it is now, but let's say it took one year to make the movie. Just to be safe.
So a year earlier we have Volume 10. It was released on April 18, 1996 and it had files 91-100. So I would say that it's almost certain that Anokata appeared before file 91.
1. All the dates come from DCW of course.
2. I know the files come out earlier than volumes, but there were no dates for files on DCW, just for volumes, so I used that.
3. Since Gosho didn't think DC would last more than 3 months, he probably introduced the boss way earlier than that, but this might serve as something more confirmed.
4. Of course maybe GA ;-) hadn't shown us Anokata by then, but I think it's highly unlikely.

So what do you think? Is it a correct observation? Or maybe you think it was known a long time ago and unnecessary to bring up again?

My main problem with this thought is that the concept of a BO boss wasn't introduced (far as I recall) until the Pisco case, which happened a few years later. That said, maybe it's an element he always intended for and simply decided to delay its establishment, but I don't think it can be said for sure that a "BO boss" was a thing Gosho aimed for right from very early on.

Oh, I didn't know that. I didn't see this information anywhere so I wasn't aware of it. If that's true then my whole speculation is trash :)

Gosho didn't plan ALL from the start, you must take that into account. He goes on planning along the way.

The idea of the boss was probably planned at some point years into the series to expand the BO plot but at the beginning he probably only intended for Gin and Vodka to be the bosses of the organization.

And yes, by 1995/96 Gosho was getting tired of Conan and wanted to end it but when he was told there was going to be a movie then he found his spirits renewed.

I wonder what he he was gonna do instead. Take another crack at a sports (baseball) manga perhaps? But then again Major was running during that time...so it'd have to be soccer/football or something.

I like that the cover has them all done in the old artstyle even if they didn't have to do that for Kaito and Conan.

Unfortunately that's just a sticker on top of the plastic shrink wrap that holds the book inside of the cardboard cover
