In the case involving Bamba and Hatsune, on page 4, V75-11, Amuro thinks "....":
there is a chance that Amuro is surprised by Bamba not mentioning about the chocolate under his shoe, but I don't believe it is.
I think instead that when Amuro thinks "Eh?" on page 6, same manga, it's because he never considered the chance that Bamba and Hatsune were twins, nearly impossible for him, and not because Kogorou just told there was nothing he could do.
In any case, Conan verifies Bamba innocence asking if it was ok to go out.
So, in that case I consider Conan slightly superior to Amuro, or, in worse case, just at the same level.
IMO, in no case I can consider Amuro "bad" for that detail.

I get the feeling that the mangaka aims for Conan to collect capable allies in taking down the Org. Before he only have himself and Agasa - Conan got shit scared lol

More like Conan was arrogant and took many unnecessary risks, nearly dying at least two times.

I got Conan inside the locker in mind when I wrote this.

To elaborate more on why 897 was such an anti-climax:

Bourbon, as described by Kir on the two occasions, was someone depicted to be around Conan-level in intelligence and investigative ability. He was supposed to be a genuine and pressing BO threat towards Conan and the next seven years was either overtly or implicitly building suspense about who Bourbon was and what was his aims and goals. When he was revealed as Amuro, even though he was no longer chasing after Sherry, he had suspicions about Akai and had realised that Conan was behind Sleeping Kogoro. The danger to Conan was not reduced by MT, but intensified. The suspense built up as Bourbon gradually found out more about Akai's fake death.

Then 897 presented him as basically on the good side, though willing to sacrifice some people to get to meet his goals. It creates such a massive dissonance with the setup that the only way to save it is for Amuro to backstab Team Shin-chan but due to the ending of 897, I really don't think that's going to happen.

I really doubt Amuro wanted to take Shiho back to the BO...amuro seems to be an emotional person (with date,and the guy that Akai was talking about),so taking back the daughter of Elena who apparently was close to him is unlikely,it doesn't fit his personality...
He knows she'll die back in the BO since she's a traitor.he could have let Sherry die in the carriage like Vermouth wanted,the result would have been the same for Amuro,since he's the one who found her.
But he really wanted to avoid her being hurt or killed,for me it's because he planned something else.And I doubt the collegues he was talking about were BO,they were most likely policemen,like in file 897...Faking Sherry's death is way better than just letting her alone with the risk of being found again by Gin.So I understand why amuro reported her to Vermouth,in order to prove his loyalty to the BO,and also to find a way for them to stop looking for Sherry.

As for Amuro not reacting to her death,he was upset when he saw the carriage explodes,but right after that he suspected that the person who threw the grenade was Akai,so he probably thought Akai helped her in some way.
It's just my interpretation of amuro's behavior,so we probably will have more explanation in the next file^^
