Chekhov MacGuffin wrote:The cell notification that Yuusaku won is definitely important to something. I am not convinced Ran and Kogoro's timeline is happening at the same time as what we are seeing at the Conan house's. Maybe some clock checking could confirm that.
I have a feeling Okiya is using a mike, just like Hattori in the Vermouth arc. The actions with the hand in front of the mouth and coughing are too similar. Someone is speaking for Okiya, and Okiya is blocking his mouth to keep Amuro from noticing this. The face mask is a distraction to keep Amuro from noticing that Okiya's voice is being projected and he is not saying the words. At the same time Yuusaku might be relaying what to say to whoever is disguising as Yuusaku (Yukiko?) in America. That would explain the amount of equipment in Conan's hideyhole. He has to coordinate a chain of voices, plus keep an eye on the FBI...
If Shuuichi is asking for Camel to keep the speed and direction steady, it might be to set up for some quick sniping at the chasing cars rather than a jump like I first thought. I want to know why Shuuichi thought Amuro would go after the FBI agents (and how both he and Amuro knew they would go driving) instead of someone like Sera.
Also, I am a bit concerned that Amuro's friends aren't wearing any black. There is no reason that lower level agents are bound to wear black, but it's just a detail that concerns me. (And those guys in front of the Kudo house are definitely news/paparazzi. Look at their vans.)
I am not sure about where Conan is. It looks like a small space.
Chapter 900 might be reserved for the moment that Sera/Ai meets Akai.
well, my deduction didn't cover the part with "who the people outside Kudo's house are" because there hints that they were reporters, but that didn't add up with yukiko being okiya, so for now, I'm sticking with them being either amuro's colleagues(and his reaction to what subaru said in the beginning was a surprise reaction that subaru was able to notice them, which i believe was through conan seing them through a camera outside) or another possible agency,.. the FBI themselves(where as akai revealed himself to James Black and told him that he should bring agents outside Kudo's house to apprehend bourbon(FBI agents does have vans too)). (Conan might not know about it, and therefore reaveled their exsistence to Bourbon)
Since you're the most skillfull deduction maker here, I'd like you to read my deduction and give feedback(if u haven't read it already): viewtopic.php?p=814772#p814772
DC's Awesome Qoutes:
Spoiler:
Bourbon:''A child's curiosity and a detective's spirit of inquiry do have much in common'' Vermouth:''A secret makes a woman, woman'' Mary/Gin:''It's like encountering a demon in the darkness...'' Akai Shuichi:''Fear of death is worse than death itself'' Shinichi Kudo:''following the smell of blood to arrive upon a crime scene, using every one of your senses to hunt the culprit, then once you've seized hold of him, sinking your sharp teeth(your evidence) until your opponent gives up the ghost, That's a detective''
I picked up some strange things in this chapter that I thought might be hints.
I. Emphasis on LIVE.
- Did the mangaka think that we thought that the Okiya Subaru in front of Amuro might be Yuusaku? LOL
I thought he was trying to imply that it was Akai. Why would he bother to put LIVE and NEWSFLASH.
- It could that it is really Yuusaku. As far as I know the mAcademy Awards is broadcasted live in USA around the evening and there's a huge time difference between the US and Japan. It's obviously night time in Japan right then. The LIVE label was already there in the video file when it's aired in Japan.
II. Conan's voice changer.
- If Gosho is implying that Subaru is a different entity right now and Akai is with Jodie and Camel, why is there need for Conan to use voice changer? To whom is he using it for?
III. Pulling out of Agasa voice changer in the market.
- This one is really strange. I think Conan planned it all throughout: to deliberately release the choker voice changer in the market and pull it out when it's necessary to create false clues. Why would you release a product in the market if you are using it for disguise?
Spoiler: Possible solution
So you see, we think that the car chase and Okiya-Amuro confrontation happens at the same time.
What if..
The car chase happened first.
FBI captured Amuro's 'friends'.
Planted FBI operatives in Kudo's mansion instead of Amuro's underlings.
Then the meeting proper.
Conan called Amuro with a voice changer.

That's an Awesome Idea, really puts perspectives on this matter! We have been tricked by Gosho before through the concept of time(During the clash between red and black, when akai and Conan hatched a plan with kir). "Time" might be the answer, though I'm too busy to think this through so I'm leaving it to Chek!! xP

I didn't pick this up reading the raw but saw it reading the translation, so I'll point it out (maybe most people noticed it), but Conan has TWO MICROPHONES! (the one piece bluetooth earpiece/mic, and the separate stand alone one on the desk).
So he is going to do some voice acting with the bow tie, obviously, but he is also switching talking to someone during this operation to whom he doesn't need to hide his voice. We know Agasa has built in a transmitter for the bowtie voice changer to link it up with wireless mini speakers before (used in many Kogoro sleeping deductions), so it is singular to be using a separate mic for the bow tie if this was all preplanned...
This part is speculation: I get the feeling Conan is going to do some dubbing with the Academy Awards show (maybe say something shocking in the acceptance speech of Yuusaku that wasn't really said?).
I also get the feeling from some of the equipment below the desk he might be delaying the video feed so he can screw with Amuro's sense of time since I thought he might be doing this from Agasa's basement originally (where he has a bunch of equipment down there and he is close to Okiya) but on second thought he might be doing this somewhere else entirely, such as at Nichuri TV.
It seems far fetched initially but maybe Conan is actually controlling the airing of the TV program in Tokyo (he does know people in broadcasting such as Yoko and Mizunashi Rena) and once had access to the studios controlling the broadcast he could easily use his needlegun to put to sleep the producer ... Maybe he sent out the "News Flash" as well ... this is how Conan can control and time the appearance of the (suspected) reporters at Kudo's house!
edit: on second thought maybe the separate standalone mic is/was being used to dub the voice over commentary for the tv awards program itself entirely (that's why Conan needs so many monitors to know who's who at the awards show)
edit2: another thought, with the hidden cameras/mics, maybe he could expose Bourbon and the B.O. on live TV ... lol

My exact thoughts after reading the file in english (btw, thanks DCTP team). The way he brings it up (the straight 200m / 5 seconds thing) to me it looks like he's gonna use any kind of explosive/sniper rifle to get rid off the guys behind them, so he needs the car to be steady for a moment.

I disagree about the location; it's simply too risky for him to be walked in on at a TV station. I'm thinking the setup Akai has that permits him to hack that we see a bit of during the end of the cabin trap case. That is a good bit of noticing, about the multiple headphone setup, but I'm more inclined to think he's dealing with Mask Subaru on one end and the stuff with Akai, Jodie, and Camel on the other. It's clear he's hearing both. {He has to hear the former to speak for Subaru, he hears the latter's discussion at the end of this latest file.)
That's a risky venture at best, using live TV to expose them. The Org. would trace the affair back to the Kudou house and go from there, targeting Yuusaku and Yukiko, noting how Shinichi Kudou's supposed to be dead and is connected to the house, and going from there. And, assuming Amuro's loyal to the Org., he's got a hell of a lot of information...
"Data! Data! Data! I cannot make bricks without clay." -Sherlock Holmes
I'm doubling-down on the guys helping Amuro not being Black Org members. I just can't see these guys being fully-informed Black Org members of any sort, as stated ages ago. Their guns seem like police issue revolvers, whereas most of the Black Organization guns that I can recall off-hand are more like Brownings and generic 9mms. We've seen police in Conan and Jodie both use revolvers so far (and Vermouth after she was faking Araide as well), so my instinct would be that these guys are part of some sort of law enforcement or security or something like that; secret police or fellow PIs seem the most likely off-hand.
As for everything involving the awards show and the broadcast: I feel like Gosho has placed a lot of unnecessary attention on this. The tape delay trick would have been practical, realistic, and wouldn't have involved so much theater. We wouldn't have had to introduce yet another disguise for Yukiko as Yuusaku at the ceremony nor we would have had to introduce another red herring on top of the several that are already at play.
I was saying before how it'd be interesting for Gosho to actually use a time discrepancy between "now" (Okiya/Amuro) and "then" (Ran watching the awards at home). The thing is, though: It's unnecessarily deceptive in a lot of ways, chiefly due to it serving primarily as a way to fool the reader instead of serving as a real addition to the story being told. Showing Ran's perspective is meant to show, for whatever reason Gosho decides, that it's "LIVE", so using Ran's perspective to fool only the reader is not something that would come off as particularly clever, at least to me. It will take one hell of a twist to make this something practical and interesting, and it'd revolve around the news flash if so.
To me, it seems most likely that Yukiko is Yuusaku at the awards show, Yuusaku is Okiya in the house, and Conan's being Conan behind the scenes. My guess is that Conan's secondary goal with regard to helping see through the Okiya/Akai plot is to protect him, his friends, and his family. I have a feeling the explanation is going to be a litttle bit flimsy when everything is over and done with (which has happened a few times with Yukiko--in fact, almost all of her appearances have ended this way, now that I think about it). Conan's intention appears to be to deceive Amuro into thinking that Okiya is just a normal guy and he can't be Akai nor can he be Yuusaku, because Yuusaku is on TV behind them. I'm really hoping there's a lot more to this, because that is just not a very compelling answer to what's going on outside of that house. Also figure in that there are hidden cameras everywhere and obviously something is up.
I thought the tape delay trick would work fine and would explain the reporters outside as well without Amuro being any the wiser: Okiya could just be a disguise that Yuusaku uses when he's in Japan and wants some peace and quiet. It explains why he's in the house and explains why the identity is fake if Amuro looks into it too much. It's still a bit flimsy as well, since Amuro could check on Yuusaku's whereabouts against Yuusaku's at a given time (even though Okiya has kept an extremely low profile). Amuro would think he was mistaken about Okiya being Akai's alter-ego while he was in hiding and the ruse would be a success. The cameras could be written off as security measures of a very famous guy in need of home security, etc. However...
...Akai has now re-appeared in public (Gosho, don't forget Kir, please), completely confirming that he's still alive (Gosho: Kir!). So, what is it we're meant to think Amuro is to conclude here? He was right about Akai being alive, check. Akai has been hiding out somewhere, check. Something fishy is clearly going on, check. Is the plan to get him to just give up on the Okiya angle and go back to square one? That seems to be the most obvious, but not necessarily correct, answer at this point. (KIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!)
All in all, there's not really much else that can apply to this situation. There's no way Conan could have just taped the awards show and run it in the background because there's no way to know if Amuro had seen it or heard about it. All of this charade with Okiya and Yuusaku and Yukiko is ultimately very unnecessary when you think about none of it would ever be necessary if Akai had just used a different house. Yes, I know the prevailing opinion is that he wanted to keep an eye on Haibara and it'd be good for him to have a (plot-relevant) place to stay without any questions being asked, but that's all for the sake of storytelling convenience and not really applicable to the wider question of just working a bit harder and not endangering literally everyone by staying in that house as opposed to a couple of houses down.
With concern to the rest: Naturally, Akai won't kill the guys chasing them (unintentionally or otherwise) and is looking to disable their cars, not send them flying over the cliff (I'll definitely be amused if he has an entire sniper rifle ready in the backseat with him).

I Disagree! Its boring to hear the "answer" from someone else! I'd rather work hard for the answer myself and discuss it with u guys, and then see what conclusion we can come to(to explore the possibilities). Chek is just one of the most talented ones here to analyze remarkably good and draw parallells with observed details, that people tend to miss. I think we should learn from Chek, not rely on chek!
Btw, though I have reasons to believe it's yukiko disguised as Okiya, judging from how the mystery has been building up and the "yuusaku signs"(as well as gosho's style of plot twist), I have a BAD hunch that yuusaku really is the man behind the mask!
...Though I wish conan will stay true to what he said (to maintain the Father and Son chemistry)....-.-

So it's possible that the time is warped, what's on this TV is a rerun on the NEXT day, and maybe at the end of the show Yuusaku would say something to the effect of I'm boarding a plane to go home now, so the reporters have ample time to know about the award and lie in wait for an interview (I'm taking this as a fact)? And Okiya will reveal himself as Yuusaku to Amuro, so that whether Amuro has seen the show beforehand is not really important - Gosho is playing with the readers, not with Amuro.
The only thing that bugs me yet is how the screen jumps from "not live" to "live" in a few seconds (again, page 896.7) - and WHY.
if file 900 akai tell sera/ai, if akai tell ai it will be ok, i worried is about sera, because amuro n vermouth knows that sera is akai sister... it should be problem

@lunafan: I think, if it really is "LIVE" (I'll keep quoting it like that for posterity's sake in all mah' posts), it's meant to reflect how it really is with these broadcasts. Most of them only bring up the "LIVE" graphic to remind people what they are seeing is live during particularly dramatic moments. It's not really shown during the entire broadcast. They usually come up right after a commercial break, from my experience, and I think that's the "excuse" Gosho needs for it to not have shown up in the other instances.
I'd Love this arc climax sooooo much if okiya turned out to be HEIJI in disguise!!!! That would be worth thousands of credits for Gosho!!!!!!
EDIT: I've always imagined how awesome it would be if heiji and Amuro had a Showdown!
