Spoiler:
Uh, are you saying the Rum arc is—by farworse than the Bourbon arc? And isn't Scarlet Showdown considered a pretty low bar around here? Yet you're saying it wasn't a slump? Wasn't the Bourbon arc the slumpiest of slumps, a nearly 7-year nothingburger?

I'm really questioning how you can call the still-unfinished Rum arc (3 years; titular character is the BO's #2) worse than the Bourbon arc (nearly 7 years; titular character was a NOC)?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again—I just can't see DC getting worse than the Bourbon arc. In other words, there's nowhere to go but up.

Yeah, they worry the wait won't be worth it, and the length is going to make the notion that it won't be worth it, unfortunately, all-but-true for quite a few.

As much as the "ShinRan" fanatic in me is excited as hell, I'm still a bit disappointed, maybe because I really want this file to become BO-related despite the fact that Gosho already stated it's going to be a ShinRan moment.

For the meantime
Spoiler:
I really wanted to see more scenes and confrontation between Sera and Shinichi

Who knows how many files this case will be? And who knows if the next case will be an immediate follow-up to this one? If not this case, the BO could be right around the corner, whether that case is an immediate follow-up to this one or not. Every 50 files, there's a higher chance than usual that the BO will be involved—50 Files ago, we got Koji Haneda, Mary and Scotch; 50 Files before that, it was Scarlet Showdown; 50 Files before that, it was the shrine case with Jodie, Vermouth and Bourbon; and 50 Files before that, it was Detectives' Nocturne.

Darn straight—its been 232 Files since she made her debut, and finally, we have their first meeting.

in time like this a love story needs some obstacles so i reallyyy want okita to show up. don't you think it's weird how kendo tournament case and previously cafe case make big deal how about ran's excitement towards okita? he seemed just ordinary (and somehow annoying bcs he ruined deduction time lol) character but he can be useful for shinran love progress. :p :p

anyhow, if it's something big im gonna bet shinran going to kiss just like sonoko said in first page. this seemed like a case that made for them. (although still hoping bo related will appear, we at least still have heiji to make everything merrier.)

i personally think the pace and sudden shinichi's appearance little bit off too but at least i'm happy because i'm back into detective conan again in the right time. i know what happened before binge watching vermouth arc, scarlet showdown arc, bourbon arc bcs i just watched all of them just this year. so im totally looking forward being surprised for whatever going to happen rum arc :)

[x] MG = Mrs. Akai
[x] Haneda = Brother Akai

I'm so glad Shinichi's back, I don't however understand why he's so nonchalant nowadays about keeping his identity a secret.

Also Sera doesn't seem to interested in the fact that Shinichi has an antidote, which her mother also needs (seeing as the shrunken state is doing number on her body) but perhaps it's because Mary is more at risk of being noticed if she returns to her adult state.

I mean, Rum is probably still searching for her, overall not expecting any BO action any time soon.

This will be a LIVE-READ of chapter 1000.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000! The legends were true!

We start with a color cover, Conan wearing the clothes of Sherlock in London, the cover confirms a long case! Let's see.. Actually before that I just want to say that this will probably be Gosho's take-on on the school trip murder mystery story... I can't wait to read this...

Lol what are those balls on the first panel? Anyway, the first page... Sonoko teasing Ran and Shinichi walks from behind her?
HOLY BONKERS I actually asked for Ran to be in the color pages and it happens. This is cool as hell. The art looks really clean and beautiful, it's not a generic color spread at all. The background detail is heavy to the right while the character detail is in the middle and to the left. There's some kind of comedic looking haibara-skull-cloud at the very top? Lol. Also it has the fall-theme going on.. So... The Crimson School Trip arc?

GOSHO AOYAMA PRESENTS!
*heavy breathing* let's see... I can't believe this, chapter 1000. It's actually THE 1000th chapter of DC...

Oh? The cold-theory seems to be turning out to be true? That's weird. It's maybe either about the antidote working more effectively when body's immunity system is weak, or the antidote causes the body's immunity system to become weaker and the rest are coincidences.
Wow this first post-color page has some pretty strong ShinRan moments, I actually got a chilling feel on my arms when I saw this panel.
Spoiler:
Image
What a fantastic way of showing us how Shinichi feels and compares things from his times as Conan... When the series starts to reach the end even more these panels are going to start killing me a bit from the inside...
Masumi appears. This is funny... Without Conan remembering the flashback we would still most likely get this very page as Shinichi saying the same thing (perfect memory yadayada) but I find it much funnier now when Shinichi goes "Yeah.. Sure..." because we know how much Masumi pushed Conan to remember him. Anyway Masumi puts a pretty strong impression here, her appearance and this moment taking place seems to be of some importance. Next up... Some kind of secret popularity contest of "best" girls in the school. Best as in how? It could be hottest but Masumi? Maybe her personality...

So who is this kid trolling Shinichi anyway... I don't remember him but it seems that he's an old friend of Shinichi so this being Gosho's original take on on the school trip case seems to be the case still. Oh yes, I really like that Sonoko is so damn carefree.

Okay now we flashback back to how he actually turned Shinichi. So Haibara is most likely going to have a change of heart going on. So the cold is from him jumping in the water, interesting...
LOL! "I suppose it'd be bad for the world to know that Kudo Shinichi is alive" - the very next moment when Haibara says he can have the antidote he goes back to not caring and getting hyped.

Oh the art is amazing here the next page after the recap. God damn, LOOK AT THAT DETAIL ON THE TERRACE. There are people taking selfies and some guy leaning over the ceiling. Oh, this must be their and some other classes filling up the place.
Okay, so the terrace is about 20 metres tall.. Is that really the case though? Seems too tall realistically. Coincidentally: 1. Masumi seems to be leaning too there, 2. Ran says it's dangerous to lean like that and 3. someone jumped to their death from that very building recently...
Sonoko is the one pushing Ran to go to Shinichi. Well done but it doesn't seem to be working on her, too bad.
Hmm. So is it called the Kiyomizu stage.. And now some creepy woman appears. She seems to be a tourist maybe, or some local who just likes going there. She has a flower inside a notebook which reminds me of something, can't recall what exactly, and the Dekuri"-kun".. Perhaps the person who died, and she wishes to die too to get to that person? ("wait for me").

Ok next page, yeah, that's a pretty damn tall building there. She looks pretty normal in this page, dropping the flower. So she's called Keiko Kurachi and she won the macademy awards for acting huh... And ofcourse she claims that she came there in secret.

So the girls will be taking a group photo with the famous actress. Shinichi's friend is Nakamura, right.. Lol, what is this? She says she used to change Shinichi's diapers. Lmao. Wow. I was first thinking how damn cool it is to have Shinichi around again but this turned hilarious really quick.
Anyway. The actress knows Yukiko from her past, Shinichi tells her they stay at Nakagyoku inn, she says she and some people she knows from her childhood stay there too. And she invites Shinichi to her room, lol! "Something to show," huh.
Ok. The moment, starting with the 3rd to last panel, with Shinichi starting to ask questions enters us to a short case-mode. Wow. I can practically hear this playing right now. Time to actually make the hallucination a reality.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxFFhUvlRiM
This is so cool. I wonder if the person she and her now-famous acquaintances from childhood knew, who died, is the one Sonoko mentioned earlier. Where will this lead to? Let's see...

Ah. A cipher... She got that from someone? Or... She clearly has her own plans after all. However we haven't met the other people yet.
What is she implying is impossible for Shinichi? Is this something she (maybe even we) needs Yusaku for..? A real challenge... Usually we get the hired private eyes on the case, for file 1000 it's Yusaku. Interesting indeed.
So, the meeting time is 9PM for Shinichi and Ran to go on a quest and we have a mysterious figure that somehow does not emanate the presence of Heiji there, despite the color of his skin, looking at his watch. Who's this mysterious person I wonder...

Oh wow. I can't believe we're actually getting these bonding moments in DC. Gosho actually has that Nakamura there too. Lol. They go to a temple and take photos I think that pose is maybe of the 1000 armed Kannon-god. This is so beautiful. CHANGE THE SONG, CHANGE THE SONG!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZd41NMBM4s
Okay so how back in times we must go for that crime scene, Masumi shows interest on the crime scene from like centuries ago. This page is mostly about being in-character, with Ran being scared and Shinichi showing off his knowledge but this time being able to actually say comforting things. Facts that bring a peace of mind even from something like murder. That's some very strong dialogue there from Shinichi.
Spoiler:
Image
And last thing is that Yougen-in blood ceiling. Will this case perhaps copy the murder?

Next page we arrive at the hotel. This hotel looks like a casino from outside, it says Hotel Gion on the plate so I guess that's the actual name of the inn itself... So all Masumi, Shinichi, Ran and Sonoko arrived after all. Lol. They're all wearing school gym clothes or something like that.
Mostly important information to remember: Keiko is wearing a hat, claims she got a small bump on her head while shooting for the soon to premier fantasy-historical Crimson Shura Tengu-movie.
It seems that this group of people are all very competitive, the actor, musician and director all want to claim that the movie will be a hit because of their input and no one else's.
'Partners in crime since university' part gave me a chuckle. They all do look like some kind of slimes. Next up we head to the scriptwriter's room, will the man be alive or not? Next page tells.

So the scriptwriter is in room 1502 with the cipher. Dry leaves of the japanese aralia plant enclosed, huh... So it's confirmed that Dekuri is the one who jumped down the 20 metres.
Haha, they're basically asking Shinichi to come drink some alcohol. And Shinichi and Keiko exchange addresses. This is perfect example of a case that is only possible to progress this way because he's Shinichi and not Conan.

Shinichi and the squad are trying to solve the case but already we got a case on our hands and run back possibly to find the body. Did the man spill the beans or what after Shinichi arrived to get the cipher?

Oh that's one way to kill someone. The man got just straight up thrown over the chair and stabbed? Wait blood is dripping on Shinichi.. Could this really be as I said, the culprit is copying a murder from the past for some reason (it hides a trick) oh, that actually shows signs of someone walking on the wall... Actually it almost like shows a murder scene happening upside down, and the body falling down? That's ridicilous...

This chapter was packed with so much I can't help but be pleased. This is actually a way better way to celebrate file 1000 than what I had in mind. This is more than a case, and the trick itself seems pretty darning ridicilous. The pacing itself was fast and covered alot of ground, the case is moving fast and freely making it very adventurous and large. I wonder how long this case will be...

Great job Gosho and once again, congrats Detective Conan for reaching file 1000.

OH BONKERS! Why didn't I get it. That dark-skinned man WAS Heiji, he's following Shinichi. That's why we got him looking at his watch. He's dressed up so that no one notices him. I wonder if it all will go down as smooth now.

I honestly wouldn't want that to happen, We have finally reached the 1000th chapter, and one of the biggest reason I love ShinRan is because there is no bullshit side character between them. Gosho said that 1000th chapter arc would be dedicated to ShinRan ( I want more BO honestly).

But I don't think Okita will come in to mess things up ( He was just introduced in the manga few chapters back, so it really wouldn't make any sense). And I really hate it when side characters come in suddenly in animes( feels like a cheap move to progress the story) and in DC the ShinRan love story is a side story so it would become boring if it only focuses on it.

Well I'm actually expecting an answer from ran to the confession in London. And I'm honestly really looking forward to the case this time cause it looks really interesting.

I am still willing to wait how this arc turns out and judge it afterwards however. I want to believe it's gonna get good.
And I as a huge ShinRan shipper will probably forgive anything that's gonna go wrong with this file anyway. I know it's wrong but I can't help myself xD the many blushing Shinichi panels are pretty promising :-X
ShinRan forever :D

Indeed, he also first appeared in the Teitan High Ghost Story case, and is a buddy of Shinichi from the soccer club.
