Well it is physically impossible for Akai and Gin to be the same person.
They were on two completely different buildings.
Remember?
Spoiler:
When Gin was about to shoot Kogoro, but stopped. And he held up that bug with Conan's fingerprints. And Akai shot it. (Btw, this was an awesome scene). But this proves Akai =/= Gin.
Eh, I think the false lead expired in episode 345/volume 42, when Shuu saved Jodie. I'm not arguing Gin is Shuu, just that Aoyama wanted some folks to jump to that conclusion like he wanted people to assume that Vermouth was Jodie.
Oh, probably. Did anyone even think that Shu = Gin?
Probably. The big reveal about Vermouth was done by the time I really entered the fandom, so I don't know.
On the other hand, the lead about the queen-like woman who is associated with cat sounds is apparently something only I've noticed, since everyone else is so sure Vermouth was the woman Itakura mentioned in his diary.

Vermouth = Sharon hadn't been officially revealed by that point (Vermouth = Sharon one year ago), so Gosho was probably hiding Vermouth's Sharon face on purpose.

Yeah, I think I granted that possibility the last time I wrote about this. Doesn't explain the cat, though, and I'm not at all satisfied that Vermouth is supposed to be imperious instead of seductive. (I've asked if she has a verbal tic the Japanese would pick up on as queen-like/condescending/arrogant/imperious/presumptuous or the like. Never got a good answer either way, though.)

Wait, what cat sound things?

In Money can't Buy Friendship (ep 329/vol39.6pp~4) Agasa says there was more to Itakura's dairy than Conan got to see. Basically Itakura just wrote that the woman hung up quickly after a cat's cry got louder.

Hmmm, so what does this mean?
One of the BO (female) members have a cat?

Then maybe Eri is a BO member
Put the cat along with the "authoritative tone" that is very reminiscent of how her peers describe how she acts in court, making even opponents feel like they are crossing their queen, and I think it's at least an intentionally placed red herring (very obscure for it to be just a red herring, though). Of course, we don't know the "cat" Itakura mentioned was really a cat.

I don't know whether I would feel surprised/shocked, angry/mad or sad that Eri is the BO boss.
Since Eri is the mother of Ran, who is the lover of Shinichi.

Eri(explaining to Ran why she shrunk Shinichi),"Dear, I did this for your own good. To test what will your future husband do if he is in trouble. Now that I know he will not give up easily, I will let you marry Conan."
