Gosho only said Haibara would be very surprised. Nothing more. He also said the boss had already appeared "in some form" in the manga. For all we know it could be just the name of a drink or who-knows-what-else. So it's all very vague, kinda like when you read your horoscope.

Yep, there isn't enough information/evidence to actually come up with a good theory that isn't most likely speculation. For instance, I can come up with a theory, stating that Akemi Miyano is the actual boss and it fits the above clues. Turns out the Akemi we are familar with is in fact a fill in for the real one. She was a member who's only mission was to act as Shiho's sister from a young age and eventually became the role since after so many years, she actually started seeing Shiho as a true sister. The real Akemi is the current boss that was appointed the position by the previous boss(thought I wouldn't cover that little hole did ya), so she was removed from the family and groomed for the position during her teen years.

See it ain't that hard.

Only if you assume that the boss liking of Vermouth is limited to a sexual level. Let say Akemi was the boss, why can't she have Vermouth as her favorite due to Vermouth's level of cunning and mastery of disguise? (or maybe the real Akemi...is in to that  , I don't judge)

You're talking about Kiichirou Numabuchi, an assassin who escaped the Crow Corps Corps before they could test APTX 4869 out on him. He then escaped from prison after that. He first showed up in Osaka in chapters 187 and 188 (The knife through wallet on heart murder case) where he is a suspect in a serial murder case. He is innocent of these particular crimes and was being starved in a shack by the real serial killer who wanted to frame him. He tries to stab Conan with a kitchen knife while escaping, but Heiji's good luck charm luckily blocks the blow. He took driving lessons at a seminary 20 years ago but failed. He appears again in chapters 358 - 360 (Mitsuhiko's disappearance case). When he escaped from the police (again) in a forest in Gunma, we find out he apparently lived by the forest when he was younger and liked fireflies.

Does anyone think it's weird that Numabuchi hasn't been tracked down and killed? I imagine that the first case at least would have had enough press for the B.O. to catch wind of him, and I feel like if they were planning on testing APTX on him (i.e. his life was expendable) they wouldn't allow him to wander free of the Organization; even if he's in police custody I'd expect them to make some sort of silencing attempt on him

I think...and this is just another speculation...that the leader's name might be beer or something like that (because it's kinda like the king of alcholic drinks), or crown royal (he's the boss)...or a werewolf (silver bullet):P

I agree that BO's boss hasn't appeared in the comics in person just yet. However he may have come up in a name of a drink. Personally I think it may be the "Spirit" drink mentioned in the episode when sherry was shot by gin and fell through a chimney (forgot the exact episode number). Spirit is a pure alcholic drink but it can also mean "ghost" or  "invisible entity". This is a good codename for Head of BO imo as he is always hidden and untraceable.

Bought that book with the BO leader hints now, so I'll hopefully recieve it early in July. Gotta read all the volumes over again and do some notes. Since the real name of the organization will reviele the boss, I'm sure it's someone we've known well for a while.
I am suspecting Yusaku and Yukiko (along with 97% of all the other characters that appear more than once) because of the real Organization name (Night Baron/Baroness), and I don't think I'll dislike the ending if it is one of them (or both), but I still hope not. Yusaku is my favourite character @@

If anyone does have that book, I wouldn't mind seeing quotes about how exactly the people who wrote it know the organization's real name will reveal the boss and that Ai would be surprised at who the boss is. Did they get Aoyama Gosho to give out hints? Since I haven't seen it, I'm kinda skeptical and I would rather not base any deductions on information that might not come from a reliable source.

in one file, haibara said that the organization was founded before half a century, or when Yusaku and Yukiko weren't born so that actually eliminate the possibility.

you've completely missed the point, shinchi's father is a writer, if he theoretically was the BO boss and named it after his fictional character   night borness then the org can't be more than 20 years old 

Ow, of course it wouldn't be anything with the baron if he wasn't the first boss. I didn't think of that >.< Always had a serious case of short memory, and I'll probably always have it.

Conan with blode hair is just uber cute. Didn't know that was possible. He probably won't be that cute in the anime.

Azusa Enemoto, waitress at Poirot, the coffee shop below Mouri detective agency. The boss of the café loves deductions, so he named the shop after the detective (440). She shows up in 276 (Heiji’s Mom), 407 (offered to baby sit Conan while he is sick), 438-440 (cell phone case), 523 (fish streamer case), 553, 569, 594 (Hunted Kogoro case), 641-642 (Azusa’s brother murder case), 674 (Iron Tanuki)
The sign appears only in 2, 6, 14, 49, 162, 234, 276.09?, 395.16 (red horse arson). Note the sign says coffee and ポアロ
Sugihito Enemoto is Azusa’s brother who does clay shooting. (Clay shooting shows up in 243. I wonder if it is the same group? No names match though.) One blond Hiroshi Enomoto shows up in 437 (the three car case). The relationship if any is unknown

Kaneshiro Genichirou, owner of a computer company, age 74, he owns islands in Okinawa and wants to increase tourism. Appears in 72 as a participant in the night baron case in Izu, 361-365 (solitary island of the princess Goosoh). He had a son who died four years ago. (a euphemism for his game?) (73.10) In the Night Baron case he pretends to be blind to throw other participants off. Apparently the virus ruined the girl game he created four years ago. In episode 291 (Goosoh case ep) a mayor by the name of Kaneshiro Hyogo (age 63) appears. He seems to be a relation to Genichirou. Kaneshiro. Miyako is the daughter of Hyogo. Genichirou has a servant named Hayashi Shizue.

Sanada Kazumi, age 27, Magician, appears in 131-133 (Magician double card case), 158 (Kaito kid on a boat), 192 name mentioned (magic club meeting), 269 Takagi has tickets to his magic show (Transporting suspect on the train case), 487 brought up in connection to the mystery house.

Sumiko Kobayashi, age 26, teacher of the detective boy's class 1B. The previous teacher was named Toya. Natsue Hatamoto, age 22, her family is all messed up by selfish relatives who want the inheritance: ownership of Hatamoto construction company and a lot of money. The company itself has corruption allegations and debt issues. They are rich enough to own Hatamoto Island and rent a huge boat. Natsue’s parents (father = Shouichi, mother = Miyuki) died in an accident of some sort the year previous. She renounced the inheritance to live with her husband. Suzuki Kenji = family butler unknown relationship to Suzuki family…

Suzuki Ayako, age 24, Graduate student interested in film. She is in a film club and is the head of makeup and costumes. She is Sonoko’s older sister who owns a villa and will be getting married to Yuzo Tomisawa, age 28, who’s father is the head of Tomisawa Zaibatsu (122). Suzuki Shirou is Sonoko’s and Ayako’s father as well as the head of Suzuki financial corp. Suzuki Tomoko is the mother.

Tsujimura Takayoshi is the son of Tsujimura Isao, a diplomat who landed Yamashiro Kenji in jail by framing him in a corruption scandal. 92-95 (No immunity for the diplomat) - do note that Conan turned back into Shinichi during this case, 283 (And there are no mermaids) – Katsuragi grew up on the island and recommended Kudo to her old friend Saori who wrote the letter to Hattori requesting Kudo’s help (the I’m going to be killed by a mermaid letter).
