I think he's Shinichi because of the similar chin!  And he looks too young to be the father.  And there's no such thing as a Shiragami-sama and it can't be a monkey.

Okey, he looks youthful and his chin is really similar to Shinichi's, but I still haven't found a reason for him to disguise like Forest Guy, sit on the tree and breathing like a mad. If he didn't have these white hair, I will believe he is Shinichi.

does the pointed chin always mean a young guy.  i mean, just because the nose down looks young, doesn't mean the person really is.  it's a guy hidden in the shadows.  with long hair.  i mean, the only difference between young & old kogoro is a mustache. 

although, if kaito kid were shinichi, that would be funny.

Hahaha the "monkey theory" didn't seem so bad haha . No but seriously the only thing that even give me the idea of Shinchi being a fake is RAN!!! She really has a good intuition (I mean who is so crazy to suspect a seven-year old to be her "boyfriend" And this three times!!!)! XDD And in movie 8 she also acted "weird" toward "Shinichi" cause he is in fact KID XDD! Anyways I'm repeating myself in her hehehe cause I already wrote my own theory. Hope you reply to it. Well now back to topic I mean in the kaito mangas Aoyama had done weirder things (think of this whole Vodoo Akako witch stuff hehehe) so it isn't soooo far feched that he would erm well change Shinichi's appereance hehehe! ANd the reson for his heavy breths well who wouldn't be exhausted if he reverts back ten years older, jumped from a cliff into a river and climbing up trees (hey Conan had done weirder things ! But if you wanna know more of my point of view watch my theory (now I'm making a bit advertising hehehe ). And I'm waiting impatient for replies .

Sorry, I can't read your theory because it was too long. But anyway, if the forest guy were Shinichi, and the one who was found in the lake were fake, why did he have to be naked? It can be understood that "the fake Shinichi" wanted to be found in the lake, so that others would assume he has a cold, and therefore he can't speak well. In other words, nobody would notice that his voice is different. But why naked? It is not like Shinichi wears special kind of cloths to distinguish himself from others.
About Ran thing, we can't really conclude that this Shinichi is fake because Ran has no feeling for him. Ran's feelings are probably just temporary... I think that the fact that Shinichi forgot all about her (due to memory loss) shocked her...

Ah and I will edit my theory cause know I also have an idea of why the "imposter" could be naked in the river XDDD (Even if it is a bit (but only a little tiny bit hehehehe XDD ) far fetched).

After reading file 649, it became more clear to me that Shiragami-sama cannot be Shinichi.
Shinichi has really lost his memory.
Heiji made him hide inside the trunk of their car.
If the guy which Heiji made him hide in the trunk were a normal person (someone who did not lose his memory), he would refrain from doing such a thing.
Moreover, if the forest guy were the real Shinichi, why does he have to put such a long hair as a disguise?

Now we are left with 3 strong options:
1) Monkey
2) Homeless
3) Other - perhaps Makoto.

From page 16, at file 649, the forest guy looked very tall and thin, so he can't be a monkey.
Also he has a long hair, and it seems to be real, so it can't be Makoto.
From all of this, I conclude that it's a homeless.
