Maybe that's why his age is hidden? He may be older than he looks. I'm not necessarily thinking of APTX with this, though I can't rule it out either.

If he did indeed use the APTX, then the drug wasn't the same as Haibara's finished project (which relates to her mentioning the two different types of drugs...) Pretty much all hints point to Haibara's drug being the real dream drug from Gin mentioning that her APTX has never been used on humans to the victims list that Shinichi and Kohji were on.
So if Rum took an APTX that kills he would be six feet under in a coffin, not young... Though with Mary the explanation could get a sudden turn. From the way she is I think she created the APTX also from Miyanos files somehow.

I don't mean that he "took" it, I mean he "used" it. If he used it to kill kohji/amanda and then take it himself by all logic he should be dead. In fact he must have had suicidal thoughts to take it if he did... The cause of death being unknown kind of hints that either we'll know what it is later, or the DC world doesn't know (because it's APTX).

Ohhhhh, sorry, I understood it as "used it to shrink himself" rather than "used it to kill". Yeah, yeah, he (or some other agent) used it on Koji and Amanda since Koji appears on the list and their CoDs couldn't be determined.
the eye is the characteristic feature of DC characters ,his eyes aren't the same as shuukichi but they are similar but I have a feeling that there is another character having the same eyes with those two lines under the eye but I really can't remember however I think he has got something to do with the akai's even if he is not the father mentioning friday the 13th again here make me think that something had happened to shuuichi's father on that day maybe for that reason akai was thinking about Friday the 13th as all the detectives here regularly don't show any interest about such things but maybe akai cared because something happened to his father on the same day ..

I think the double wing eye design is of curcao from movie 20. That doesn't make any sense though. I can only think of her, if its the two strokes you're talking of.

I've a different perspective. We know that according to BO, Haibara's drug is used to kill people, which likely means that Miyano's drug was an early project of the elixir. Although they might have affected in a different way, So the characters who took the early APTX - Vermouth, Mary etc took the elixir. not the killer.
My guess is this guy is related to father Akai and Kouji because of "Friday the 13th hint". I don't think he's Akai's father because, the father should look like Shuukichi more than Shuichi. This guy purely gives vibes of Shuichi.If he doesn't belong to the characters of this file, then he is eavesdropping a suspicious situation. BO guys don't generally eavesdrop on non BO guys unless they affect him somehow. So this guy may not be from BO. He does look like a detective, or a journalist.
Fine.. Fine..Sorry for jumping up on conclusion. It may be that gosho draws that way. But everyone have a feeling that he is Tsutomu .
even i felt the same when i saw that i could not help but think of him and if that turns true...this is sure gonna be interesting!!!

Or it is Akai himself, who got wind of the murder that was going to happen here (the guy looks like he expected the crime) and needed a different disguise than Okiya because of Amuro. Also, as pointed out in a different forum, don't forget that Friday, 13th is also the date that Akai faked his death at the Raiha Pass, I doubt placing importance on that date again at this moment is a coincidence.

I also thought about that possibility,but I think he's avoiding Amuro as much as possible,even with a new disguise Amuro would recognize his ennemy.And how would he be able to predict a murder at Poirot? It seems like a random case to me...
The fact that mysterious guy know so much about European's history as Spimer said before,makes me think he spent a long time abroad(like Shuiichi). So I don't know what to think about this guy...

Guess its gonna be Shuichi Akai - even though there are some arguments against it.
If not it might be some random MI6/SIS-guy who´s looking for Mary.
Question: Maybe someone remember or even wrote the comment about a possible Mary - MI6/SIS-connection, where he/she points out that
a phrase of "surprise" or something else is used twice in the manga. I cant help but i think i read it in this forum.
And: Are there any MI6/SIS-references in the manga so far?

Sera shouldn't be able to contact him if he's supposed to be dead to begin ever since over 10 years ago.
And why should Akai's father know anything about Amuro? We don't know at what timing Amuro got involved with the Miyanos, or if Tsutomu ever met them to begin with.
I think we're jumping to conclusions based on visuals alone.
In my opinion it's too early to draw conclusions, it would be preferrable to wait until the whole file is available.
I don't think that guy is Akai's father, just because his eyes. The style is the one Gosho uses for not japanese people (like Minerva, James, Jodie...). Akai has this type of eyes because of his mother, who is from England, but Sera and Shuukichi both have japanese eyes, so I think their father's eyes would be in this japanese style. And it doesn't seem like he's giving them a scary look, it looks like his "original" eyes.
So, my bet is that he is a foreign that will be somehow inserted into the main plot, possibly, related to Kohji Haneda's incident.
